He said between the ages of 90 and 100 he narrowed his diet down to bread fried in fat-back and three gallons of wine a week, then Black said that the doctors told him "are you crazy? You need fruits and veggies!" and then proceeded to say "and if he'd have followed their recommendations, he'd have been dead in a week"

Snails cause road crash

Hundreds of migrating snails caused a six car pile-up at they swarmed across a busy dual carriageway in Germany.

Police and rescue chiefs had to close the road for several hours while crushed and surviving snails were scraped off the tarmac.

Environmentalists believe the mass migration could have been an indicator of climate change as the snails sought a more suitable habitat.

Six cars were damaged as they slid across the B14 A-Road near Stuttgart.

"Cars were crushing the snails and the slime was making the road so slippery that people started skidding all over the place," said one driver.

"Motorists had to stop and try to pick their way through the snails. It was like something from a horror film."

Pole dancer's underground act

Police in Bucharest are looking for a busking pole dancer who performs her routines on the city's underground railway.



Passengers described the dancer, photographed by a passenger's mobile phone, as a "well-dressed, attractive, student-like young woman".

She apparently performs her routines only when the train is travelling between further apart subway stations in the Romanian capital.

Her modus operandi is to play Tom Jones's You Can Leave Your Hat On on a portable CD player while taking off her clothes and dancing around a pole.

She then puts her clothes back on and passes around a container for passengers to show their appreciation for her efforts.

One passenger, George Stancu, who witnessed the act, said: "I can't say I didn't like the show but I found it unusual. There are lots of kids who travel by underground and I just don't think it's proper."

A police spokesman said the woman faced charges and a fine for indecent exposure and public begging if she is caught in the act.

However, officers are struggling to arrest her as she seems to perform only on trains with no guards or CCTV cameras.

The US designer who invented the Pringles tube was so proud of his achievement he's been buried in one.

Fredric J Baur asked for some of his ashes to be put in a tube and interred in a grave in his home city of Cincinnati.

Baur, who died at 89, created the tube and the curved system for stacking the potato snacks inside it in 1966.

Baur's children honoured his request to bury him in one of the cans by placing part of his cremated remains in a Pringles container in his grave.

The rest of his remains were placed in an urn buried along with the can, with some placed in another urn and given to a grandson, said Baur's daughter Linda.

Baur was an organic chemist and food storage technician who specialised in research and development and quality control for Procter & Gamble, who still make Pringles.

Boy, 4, in rehab for cigar addiction

A four-year-old boy is in rehab in Taiwan after he became addicted to smoking his father's cigars.

The father, of Gaoxiong city, started taking his sons, aged nine and four, to a rehabilitation centre after catching them stealing his cigarettes and cigars.

"The answer was what I had expected, but the hardest to accept," he told China Times.

The boys admitted stealing and said they did it because they thought their father looked "cool" when he smoked.

The four-year-old admitted he even pleaded with his brother to borrow cigarettes from classmates when they failed to steal any from their father.

The father started taking his sons to a rehabilitation centre to overcome their nicotine addiction. However, the centre criticised him for failing to continue treatment alongside his children.

Dr Xue Guangjie said the father came to only two sessions and added: "The best way to remove a child's addiction is to set a good example.

World's No 1 movie buff

A Welsh film buff has watched over 28,000 movies - more than anyone else in the world.

Gwilym Hughes has just earned his third certificate from the Guinness Book of Records, reports the Daily Post.

It confirms that Mr Hughes, 63, of Dolgellau, who watches around 14 films a week, holds the present world record of 28,075 movies.

But since receiving the certificate he has already seen a few more films - 213 films so far this year.

Mr Hughes was instantly hooked on the cinema when he watched his first Popeye film aged four.

He said: "I got the first certificate in 1994 and this is my third. I have been watching films since 1956. The only thing is that people think that I am somehow glued to the telly but I'm actually not. I am a member of around 10 charities and organisations in Dolgellau."

On an average night former painter and decorator Mr Hughes sits down to watch films between 9-12pm while his wife Eirlys, 59, prefers catching up with the soaps and game shows.

"But we never argue!" he joked.

His favourite film is Lawrence of Arabia by British director David Lean who only made 16 films including Bridge Over the River Kwai and Great Expectations.

Mr Hughes said: "The camera work especially the scene of Lawrence coming through the desert is fantastic."

Woman weds Eiffel Tower

A woman who has a fetish for inanimate objects has married the Eiffel Tower.

Erika La Tour Eiffel, 37, pledged to love, honour and obey the landmark in an intimate ceremony attended by a handful of friends.

The former soldier, who lives in San Francisco, has been in love with objects before, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Her first infatuation was with a bow that helped her to become a world-class archer, she is fond of the Berlin Wall and claims to have a physical relationship with a piece of fence she keeps in her bedroom.

She was featured in a TV documentary on Five on Objectum-Sexual women.

The term was first coined by Eija-Riitta Berliner-Mauer, a 54-year-old woman who has been "married" to the Berlin Wall for 29 years.

Mrs La Tour Eiffel said: "I just don't understand how some people can bring someone into the world like a child - an object - and then not love them."

She blames her upbringing for her condition. She claims to have been molested by her half-brother and abandoned by her parents to various foster homes.

"If I am the way I am today because of everything that happened to me, then I'm alright with it," she said. "I wouldn't change who I am now."
