"The film's premise is that the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl, the "winged serpent", has been resurrected by a cult in modern New York City and is flying about, snatching people off the skyscrapers. Carradine and Roundtree play police detectives investigating the sudden rash of suspicious deaths, disappearances and dismemberings. Meanwhile a petty criminal (Moriarty), on the run after a failed robbery, accidentally discovers the creature's lair and tries to blackmail the city into paying for the information."(Wiki) Great giant monster flick from Larry Cohen, full of his trademark tongue-in-cheek dark humor, gore, action & great performances from an all-star exploitation cast. Stars David Carradine, Richard Roundtree, Candy Clark & Michael Moriarty in his greatest role as Jimmy Quinn, the piano playing, city blackmailing, petty criminal Jimmy Quinn. "Eat 'em! Eat 'em! Crunch! Crunch!" ![]() Larry Cohen should sue the makers of the GODZILLA remake for ripping him off. A review: "Stop trying to fight these monsters and believe in Jesus!"

Summary: Q: The Winged Masterpiece
Score: 8/10 Q stands for Quetzecoatl, the flying Aztec god, and is the original Godzilla for America, 26 years before Cloverfield. Free in the city to pluck heads off of window washers, and snatch sunbathers off rooftops, raining blood and body parts upon the unwitting citizens below who run around like ignorant ants, a detective (David Carradine) with a macabre sense of humor and an open mind seeks to uncover what's really going on. Carradine has all the funny lines in this movie, where he plays a detective resembling David Duchovny in The X-Files. Michael Moriarty plays a total loser in the city who stumbles upon a giant egg hidden in the upper rafters of a building 80 stories up in downtown New York City. Moriarty is so good in this movie it's hilarious how good he is. Meanwhile a killer is skinning people alive. Richard Roundtree and Candy Clark co-star. From the cheap uneven effects, creative characters, camp value, humorous and energetic dialog, everything works to create a cult classic out of a 1982 B movie.

Only Jebus can fight monsters! Praise Jebus!
This came out when I was a senior in high school. A bunch of my friends and I cut out one day and went to the Sunrise Mall Theatres (no longer there) to see this. Me and this girl named Noreen sat waaaaay in the back of the theater and made out for a while, then she gave me a rubdown, Wedding Crashers style. Nice! I love this movie!

Dude 3/4 of this list was seen at the very same multiplex. Back then, there was very little security; as one movie ended, we would mingle with the exiting crowd as if we were leaving then duck into another theatre to catch a different movie. Sometimes we would wind up seeing 3 or 4 movies in one day. Then my parents would wonder why my grades were so shitty. ![]() You're definitely on the money, it was a very good year

My brothers and me did the exact same thing at the Old Mill theater where I grew up in Mountain View, California.
Man, I loved that mall. It had flowing water through the entire mall, a large mill that went around and around making this refreshing right after a rain small in the air. Awesome mall. Too bad it's gone now. |

Sometimes going back to the childhood haunts can be kinda sad. You look around and say, "Remember this is where we used to fuck up," etc.
Then there are times you go back and say"Goddamn I'm glad that shithole is gone!" P.S. Scratch Jupiter behind his ears for me
