Default The Official Chan-wook Park Thread

I have long been an admirer of Chan-wook Parkís films, but I still repeatedly run into people who have never heard of him. I think even the people who say they donít like to ďread a movieĒ referring to subtitles, would enjoy the depth and provocative stories he weaves into his films.

Oldboy 2003

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance 2002

Lady Vengeance 2005

Iím a Cyborg, but thatís OK 2006

JSA 2000

Three Extremes (Segment titled Cut) 2004

Thirst 2009 (Upcoming)

So what are your thoughts on this director? What are your favorites?

Best director to emerge in the last 30 years for me. My favorite to come about since Cronenberg probably.

Haven't seen JSA yet but everything else is great. Can't wait until Thirst comes out over here. Definitely one of the top few best/most talented directors of the decade.

On par with Oldboy I'd say.

Loved Oldboy and Sympathy. Liked Sympathy more than Oldboy in fact. A friend has been hammering me to see Cyborg, but I have yet to make time.

There's been talk that they may even give Thirst a limited release in some American arthouses.

I can't wait to see it either.

Cyborg is very different from his other movies, but it is still amazingly well-written and executed.

I bought it not really expecting much more than an artsy strange love story, but I vastly underestimated it. I've watched it many times since.

Lady Vengence is probably my favorite out of his 'Vengence' trilogy.
