I remember rumors for Inglorious Basterds saying that Adam Sandler was going to be in it. If Smith is in it...that's just doesn't fit. He doesn't seem like a good fit for this story.

Smith is too much of a "star" and a presence to be in a Tarantino film. Maybe it will be the case in ten years once his career has gone into its inevitable eclipse that QT will pick him up and re-fit him for active duty as an actor. Until then, there are tons of deserving, talented, yet semi-stale and marginalized actors who would benefit from QT's golden touch.
As for the film itself, the premise leaves me cold, but I felt a similar distaste for Inglourious Basterds untill I viewed it. Now it's a personal favorite as well as one of his best films overall. I try not to second guess Tarantino too much. I trust his instincts, and I'm rarely disaappointed; in fact, I'm usually surprised and delighted beyond expectation.

As much as I enjoy this genre I think QT is misfiring a bit. After all this is Django...
![]() and this. This however... ![]() Will never be acceptable in Garko's role. Josh Brolin or someone like him would be better.

Misfiring? The movie didn't even start filming yet. IB was totally different beast then what everyone thought it was going to be. The man deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Brolin would be a natural fit, but almost too predictable. He's had his fill of westerns. I think Sean Bean could work some magic in a western. Micheal Madsen would be my choice, as far as the Tarantino gang is concerned. |

Not I sir. Madsen is far and away the worst of the actors everyone has named.
