I really liked the first one, so I'm looking forward to this one!
The CGI-mouth on the poster is slightly silly though, but the creature itself looks pretty cool! |

Some of the acting kinda killed it for me too.

If you're not into the format, it's not likely to do a lot for you.
While it's called "found footage" I don't think that's really it's selling point, or that it should be it's selling point. It's built around the documentary style of site-investigation shows. MY GF has been watching some stuff on Netflix where a team of investigators go to supposedly haunted sites and they look around for mundane stuff first, and then dig into the history and creepy stuff. Having sat and watched a few of these with her made all the difference for me when I watched this. Think about it, you're sure to get more out of a mockumentry (like Spinal Tap let's say) if you've first seen a real documentary or two. Not trying to say you MUST do this before you judge it, but IMO, you'll get a whole new enjoyment out of this if you do so.

I liked the first installment, but I'm kind of a found footage apologist. What I thought was interesting about this one, was the way it kind of lulled you into thinking it was a pure goofy documentary, especially with the host paying witnesses to say lie and attest to certain things being haunted. I thought that kind of put me in the right mood to be surprised later.
The acting by the lead was especially bad, but everyone else was passable. I didn't have many expectactions for the movie, so it was a pleasant surprise. I don't know if a sequel was necessary, but necessary never stopped any studios in the past. |

The acting was mentioned earlier.
I wouldn't call it bad myself, given what they were imitating, the tone of people not really knowing what they were doing (in this and certain other cases) I think makes for a better movie than having them act like "professionals" like from say Poltergeist, The Entity, or The Prince of Darkness.

Easily one of the best found footage films. (The first, that is).
This should be fun.

I liked the first one even though I find it very, very flawed. Hopefully they can improve on some of my complaints with the first and give us a spectacular sequel. If not, oh well.

So I watched this legally as shit off the internet yesterday, and I have to say I was quite disappointed. Now, first let me preface this by saying that I wasn't a huge fan of the first one. I liked it enough but I thought the heavy emphasis on jump scares was rather lame and the whole thing was kind of uninspired. This noted I went into the sequel expecting basically a rehash of the first one where a ghost hunting team goes into some haunted place and it turns out to be actually haunted. That wasn't actually the case though, and I was pleasantly surprised by that. Though, that surprise was rather dampened by the introduction of quite possibly the most annoying group of characters ever and a very unlikable protagonist. This is a very bad thing for a movie where you are supposed to be rooting for the characters survival. I found my girlfriend, who is a rather mild mannered girl, wishing they died, which made me laugh pretty hard. The acting wasn't bad, but it really isn't hard to act like a doof (yes I said doof, it's applicable here). The scares were overall rather lame and uninspired, not once did I find myself slightly startled. Overall, I would not say avoid this flick, just watch it and don't expect much. You might be able to squeeze a small amount of entertainment out of it, but it isn't special.
