Not only is the picture better but the sound is amazing. If you own surround sound, Blu-ray should be a no-brainer.

My friend had a Blu Ray player set up with an old tv and the picture wasn't a great improvement and he questioned the need for BR's, until his TV died. Now that he upgraded to a marginally good flat screen, he can't believe the goddamn difference. The sound quality is remarkably better with Blu and the picture is so detailed, even with older films, that some classics look like they've just been made. City of the Living Dead, Pet Sematary and Zombie are all great examples of what the BR technology can do for grainy films.
In many cases, the BR price isn't vastly different than normal DVDs. Sure, the Blockbusters that are going out of style are cheaper on DVD, but otherwise the difference is slight. I'm upgrading the movies I've watched in the recent past, but foreign films more times than not seem to not be available in BR yet. I can't wait to see The Blob and Carnival of Souls, two movies with bad previous transfers that definitely could use the resolution upgrade. BR will be great until we finally go to a full download system. |

That's just retarded. That's like playing hockey with a basebal bat, and wondering why you can't stick handle as good as the other players.

Some people just don't give that much of a shit about a sharper image, and that's fine. To deny the difference being there, is just false though. |

I didn't even know this was possible? Blu-rays are so much better visual quality. Especially when you compare a DVD like "Aliens" to its Blu-ray remaster. There are Blu-rays that look like shit though. There are even Blu-rays that look worse than there DVD counterpart. I think I read Deadly Spawn actually looks worse on Blu-ray. If you can't tell a significant difference between DVD and Blu-ray it's either you have your equipment set up wrong, your equipment is old or of low quality, or you have vision problems.

Just look at the restorations of older films like Jaws and Apocalypse Now. Movies that are over 30 years old but look like they were filmed today.
