    Babyface - - "Jorge Grau’s “The Living Dead of Manchester Morgue” is a 1972 Spanish/Italian horror film released under various titles… in the first US release, it was known as “Don’t Open the Window.” Stylish in a lush “giallo” kind of way, with electric colors and some very good dubbing the movie is a zombie film, yes, but with a very special kick. It builds slowly… George and Edna, two young people traveling to a remote part of England, hook up after she accidentally wrecks his motor bike as a service station. Continuing to the quaint town of Windimere, their real adventure starts when they discover that the recent dead have been reanimated, apparently by a strange piece of farm equipment operating on a local farm. The government produced monstrosity sends out weird sonic radiation that is supposed to kill pests, but has an inadvertent result. The story is nicely paced and never boring. It is helped by the presence of American actor George Kennedy as an incredibly grumpy police commissioner who browbeats his staff and refuses to really help the young couple, disbelieving their eyewitness entirely. Let’s just say that once George and Edna visit the local church cemetery, all hell breaks loose and from there on out, The Living Dead of Manchester Morgue packs a real wallop for fans of the genre.
