In reply to: rusted31 posted an update in the group David Lynch Fans Personally i think INLAND EMPIRE is a complete mess of a movie. I know in some circles it’s heralded as a 5 star classic but it left me confused like no […] View

Just in theaters I saw it three times. I love it. But I’ve given up trying to understand it. It’s expressionistic and experimental but it’s such an interesting trip. Just let it wash over you and it’ll creep you out. Great performance from Laura Dern too. I think it’s absurd for people to say that one should ignore this movie and that it has…[Read more]

I’m quite sure it’s about a psychogenic fugue.

    re: Betty the waitress:

I’ve seen MD quite a few times but it has been a while. However, if my memory serves, my view of the waitress would be different. Diane wanted to be more like Betty which is why she became a Betty in her fantasy. The reason I think she wanted that, and this is where I hope my memory is correct, is that when she was…[Read more]

Wow I tried to post my interpretation into here and it was too long by 2000 characters. Bummer. Fortunately I was just cutting and pasting and didn’t have to write it all out.

I disagree that it’s completely abstract. I think it’s rather meticulously constructed actually and just about everything in the fantasy sequence has a tie-in to the…[Read more]

I think I would have loved it and would still love it. It’s a shame they’re not making it. They knew when his presidency was going to be up so I wish they planned for it a bit better.

I loved [U]Edmond[/U]. It’s as much a Mamet film as it is a Gordon film but it was very well done. Unique stuff.

I’m pretty sure I remember that he directed a play by Mamet at some point but I can’t remember when in his career that was.

I don’t know if anyone else got a chance to see a performance of Nevermore but as cool as it was most of the coolness came from Jeffrey Combs amazing performance (it was a one man play). The direction was solid but very…[Read more]

    • I think Stuart Gordon started out in theater, which is where he met his wife.
