zombie films of the 70s 80s 90s and now July 24, 2009 2:52 pmtheirs so many out their its hard ta choose and some r debatable whether their zombie films or not but id have ta go with return of the living dead …..
-
Probably Braindead or City of the Living Dead.
-
I’d say Lucio Fulci’s Zombie- a zombie fighting a shark? Can’t get better than that
-
that is my favorite zombie scene ever thats the only movie iv ever seen that in lol loved it!
-
BRAINDEAD! xD
-
Return of the Living Dead is most awesome. I remember seeing the trailer for it as a kid and getting scared. And when it came out on VHS I got my mom to rent it and fell in love. I’m with Zombiefarts, the zombie fighting the shark was classic.
-
That sounds like Demons 2.
Best non Romero zombie film…
I would say a toss up between Cemetery Man, Return of the Living Dead, or Zombie. All of them for totally different reasons.
Cemetery Man has this cool existential story at the center of it and is funny as hell to boot. While I am sure Dead of Night will be nothing like it, I am…[Read more]

i agree with apoc:) but i liked The Crazies:)

Zombieland,Return of the Living Dead 1-3,Pet Semetary.Night of the Living Dead(1990),Dawn remake and Day remake.
-
i have to say 28 Days Later…even though they’re fast/running zombies, they are epically scary.

also Shaun of the Dead & Zombieland (Y) -
i have say its between remake of night of the living dead or reamke of day or dead alive or return of the living dead 2 or dance of the dead or zombieland or 28 weeks later its hard to choose
-
zombie holocaust (aka doctor butcher MD) had its moments as much as it was a rip off ….city of the living dead was also good …..its hard to pick a modern zombie film as I feel the genre changed too much following the success of 28 days later…..however shaun of the dead is probably the best release in a long time with obvious references to…[Read more]

Resident Evil June 4, 2009 6:07 pmOh JOY! I’m scared to play any of RE games when I’m home alone..honestly…exept for 4th and 5th parts…

Iv played resident evil 5 on PS3 and its addictive, with a deep plot, excellent characters and tense action scenes.
If your looking for a more frantic, gory zombie shooter, which also has gr8 ratings, left4dead and soon left4dead 2 is a must-buy. -
There are NO ZOMBIES in LEft FOr DEad…they’re more like 28 Days later infected….
-
Look
Resident evil 5 and Left4dead are totally different zombie shooters (yes wikit_clown left4dead is a zombie-shooter however ridiculously pedantic you must be about the infected/zombies present).
Resident evil is for those who like tense battles, detailed cut scenes, epic story lines and thorough characters.

G What the fuck’s your problem, boy? Relax) You like it this way? OK…it’s your point of view….Kill me but those guys in L4D don’t EAT your flesh anyway…and that means they’re not zombies, you dumb ass
-
you obviously know shit all about horror.
a zombie is a dead body brought back to life through a mutation or curse, recovering some vital functions.
your narrow mind must not understand that a zombie dosn’t have to be a flesh eater. -
 Well I simply am talking about the modern zombies that are supposed to eat flesh and brains. Your smart-ass talks about voodoo and jumbies and even human behaviour. We are gathered here to discuss exsactly the type of Zombies that I’m talkin’ about..so u can stick your KNOWLEDGE deep in your ass, son.

I have a shitload of figures and posters, but they’re mostly all in my closet.

Working on getting some pics of my chainsaw collection for all of you.

Cool! Glad to see some new faces!

I love collecting horror stuff…comics, action figures, posters, movies. You know its bad when you have 5 different copies of the same movie.
“but this one had an additional scene thats not in the other 5.” lol -
haha yes! I am exactly the same, must get the director cuts
-
Once people stop acting stuck up, and realize it’s okay to buy toys every now and then… I think they’ll get more out of life.:he:
-
I don’t know. Collecting figures and stuff isn’t for everyone and I understand that. On the other hand, people who look down on it can sit on a flag pole as far as I’m concerned.
-
:he::he:
-
I love collecting figures. I do go through waves however. Plus it can get VERY expensive if you get obsessed about it like a have in the past. I usually like to just spend a little more and get the truly amazing collectible about every 6 months, rather than buying every $16.00 figure that comes to my local comic book shop.
-
I love collecting horror stuff. My problem is I have no where to put it. I have several autographed posters and a few toys I have on my desk at work.
-
I try not to spend too much money, I do let myself buy one thing a month if its under $10. Mostly its Freddy stuff pens, dolls, action figures, pretty much anything that has his face on it. My newest one is the glove belt buckle, I really want the shoes but I can’t afford them.
-
I have 3 authentic jason masks. part 3, 5. and a remake.
-
I also collect mostly Freddy stuff. I don’t buy things very often as I don’t have much space. I’ve got Freddy and Leatherface headknockers, a few screengrabs, a few action figures, Hellraiser film cells and the Nightmare on Elm Street board game! (Never played it though)
-
I collect Horror Dvds and to a lesser extent I collect masks and horror magizines as well.
lately I’ve been trying to get my horror and films on Blu-Ray. I’m trying to get a good collection Of Blu-ray Elegant Collections(the first I bought tonight was the 89 Batman..I am picking up Poltergeist and the Matrix soon)
-
check out some old and new picks from my collection over at the Ultimate collections thread.:D
-
Hey acp35 check out amazon.com for some horror on blu-ray they have The Thing for $16 bucks and Hellraiser, Dawn of the Dead and Halloween (original) for about $12.

Thank’s I’ll check that out. I’m a blu-ray fan. Especially love HDaudio.

I really need to get the HD audio stuff to really appreciate the blu ray experience. I bet Predator would be awesome.

I love to collect slasher films on dvd, especially rare, OOP ones. For instance, I have Madman and House on Sorority Row on dvd and I just recently ordered Slumber Party Massacre from Amazon.

On the subject of blu ray, it REALLY pisses me off that on some of the older titles, like The Thing, the special features are pretty much non-existent. I’m not that way and will gladly do anything I can to help a fellow horror collector find his/her wants.

Thanks everyone for making this the biggest group on the site!
Most of you still need to go and post pics of your stuff in the collectables forum!
36 members and we’ve seen less than 10 collections.:(
I guess I’m not thinking about everyone who joined because they collect dvds.
-
I gave a shit Taj, just didn’t have any extras
-
Show off your DVD collections!!
-
i dont know if this counts, but i have a DVD collection of mostly modern horor films that is about 150 and counting…
-
Of course it counts!
C’mon! I know there are more horror collectors here!
-
I joined cause I like collecting whatever I can find. I don’t really have anything super rare (probably the closest is my LE tin of Evil Dead II, only 50000 made in the entire world) but I have a shit ton of movies, as well as some figures and posters.
-
Just picked up the movie books for NOES 1,2,3,4,5,New Nightmare and Freddy vs. Jason…The book for part 3 is freaking weird, nothing like the movie.
also got the Nancy sitting in tub action figure, they had it under horror action figure instead of NOES on ebay…got it for like $7..whoo hoo -
I actually have the book for Part 3 as well, it is a lot different than the movie. Hell, I haven’t even seen my copy of it in forever, I should see if I can find it around here somewhere.
-
I got all of the books off of Amazon for really cheap, like 4 bucks for each. I am looking for the Freddy’s Dead one but can’t find any info if it even exists.
The things I do for my NOES collection :p
-
Just added Mezco’s Styleized Leatherface to the family!
-
I’m proud to say when most people come into my house for the first time they say that it’s like a horror museum, statues, toys, framed posters, autographs all over the home. I know I’m a geek, I wouldn’t have it any other way, I’m surrounded by what I love!
-
Just added a bunch of pics of my DVD collection, some of my toys & other stuff onto my profile if anyone’s interested.
-
Added:
18″ NECA remake Jason Voorhees
Mezco Living Dead Doll remake Jason Voorhees
NECA Sam from Trick R Treat
Zombie Spider-Man -
Just because everybody here likes horror dosen’t mean we are fuckin geeks!
-
I have the nightmare on elmstreet collectors box set!
-
Horror collector here, geek also.
-
I will say it loud and proud…I AM A GEEK!
HAHA
latest pick ups are Mecco (sp?) NOES Nancy in the tub and a Tall Man figure (thank you devil josh).
I have been really bad on getting new stuff…damn recession
-
I’m off to Collectormania in London on 28th November so I’m planning on picking up a few items while I’m there.
The main reason why I’m going though is to meet Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp & john Saxon! I’m planning on getting a poster signed by all 3 and I will frame it and hang it on my wall with pride! -
^^^ you luck sonofabitch!
show pics when you get back..I NEED TO SEE
-
Didn’t buy much in the end apart from a few DVDs. I’m really happy with my signed poster though! There’s a few pics on my profile. John Saxon wasn’t there in the end.

Group For Fans of French Horror Films May 15, 2009 12:17 amBring on The Horde!

Nice.
-
I am a big fan of Ils, Martyrs,Inside, and haute Tension..
That being said..anyone becoming a big fan of the new wave of norwegian horror thats been coming lately?
-
What are some good Norwegian films?
-
I liked Dod Sno, Fritt Vilt both parts but the second was best, and Manhunt, I also hear vilmark is really good,
-
Thanks acp I will check them out.
-
how do they compare to the French stuff in terms of gore and general brutality?
-
How does Norwegian compare to French. Well the French is more brutal I find but the Norwegian films have a certain feel about them. Dod Sno(Dead Snow) comes across very bloody and frantic. Its definitely the type of film a fan of Evil Dead would watch. Fritt Vilt brought about a new slasher and by the second film you had a brutal unstoppable slasher star.
-
MARTYRS, Inside, Haute Tension are the most eye popping films I have ever seen when it comes to Scares, Blood, Gore and ULTRA Violence, look no further then those three. Yes, I’m Starting to become a fan also of some of the Norwegian films as well.
-
Martyrs is superb, stays with you like Inside did (although not quite as disturbing). Haute Tension has gotta be up there with the favourites, the bedroom throat-slash was very realistic. Check out Frontiers, a great French horror with a hint of Hostel. Would be very interested in checking out some Norwegian horror…Definatley on my ‘to-do’…[Read more]

CALVAIRE!
-
Check out Vinyan!!! This is a fantastic movie that is being neglected. It’s a fantastic “slide down the rabbit hole” relationship study. Du Welz kicks serious ass.
-
Vinyan I agree is also a very good film.
-
Ahh, wee wee the French! My favourite French film of all is Eyes Without A Face AKA Les Yeux Sans Visage.. fantastic film from the 60′s. Then I also really like: Baby Blood, Irreversible, Baise-Moi and not really horror but really cool Delicatessen.
-
Martyrs was pretty solid. Inside still gets top honors though i think
-
I’ve only seen 2 french films so far, which are Inside and Martyrs and thought they were fantastic! And found them very disturbing! LOVE ‘EM!
I hope to watch High Tension and Them some time -
Going back to the Norwegian horror for a second…I watched Dod Sno/Dead Snow this weekend. Freaking loved it! It is Evil Dead/AoD in Europe. I was very impressed. Now, I’m trying to find a good subtitle file for Fritt Vilt. I’m good on the sequel, but I’m having trouble tracking the subs down for the first.

So far Martyrs is my favorite amongst all these new French go-for-the-throat movies. It just slightly edges out Irreversable and High Tension.
-
Anyone know the people behind the effects of Inside? They need to do more movies.
-
Inside, Martyrs, Frontiers, Switchblade Romance, Them….All superb, but I would have to put Inside first as it shocked the socks off me (and still does). Not many films can break all boundries like that and still be creepy.

Grudge, I agree. As a human being, INSIDE is terrifying. (Spoiler Alert.) I can’t imagine being the woman in that position. Being a single man makes it initially hard enough to understand the terror running though the main character.
-
thank you…and this is the point i try to get through to people…put yourself in that postion (role play if you have to) and get into the characters head. once you do this you can watch a movie like “irreversible” and be horrified like you should…this is why they are called “horror films” and not scary movies…they are not all meant to scare…[Read more]

I have seen most of the French horror that you guys mention but Calvaire and High Tension are my top picks.
-
geeze, french brutality does not stop. i recently watched Manhunt/Rovdyr and, wow. Villmark is next on my list, what did you guys think of either of these?
-
i havent seen “Villmark”, but by now we all should expect a thrill ride of brutal terror from the French……its just a given!!!
-
too true. but honestly, i prefer a movie like Manhunt or Inside or High Tension to Martyrs. dont get me wrong, i did enjoy Martyrs, just not as much as I have other french flicks.
-
are you kidding me? i would prefer “Inside” to any other French horror film any day of the week….
-
what surprises me about these is that they are so good, i dont mind doing subtitles (i hate audio dubbing–ever since godzilla, i have hated it)
-
even though i dont recognize the language and have to read a movies plot out……i would rather hear the original actresses voice and emotion coming out because they hired her for some reason didnt they? like Cecile de Franc in “High Tension”
-
ya, thats what im saying. i prefer to hear the authentic voices and have the lips sync with the audio. if i dont understand, thats what the subs are for.
-
im fine with reading a novel…..but only throughout the movie of said novel………there is nothing wrong with subtitles in a movie…..it gives you a better understanding of the words being used, like a deeper meaning per say
-
they right what is close enough to being said…..all that matters from the subtitles is that you understand the storyline and development really……
-
i agree with about that too…..no one ever likes a dubbed over movie, but for some reason people keep doing it again and again……
-
that is soooo not true……ok you got me. how did you know???? how lazy can you be though???? you miss out on all that emotion in the actor/actresses voice…….it just doesnt make sense to me……
-
sometimes those noises are not wanted to be heared by the audience!!!!! i know that during “Martyrs” i cringed a bit and huddled in the featle (is that spelled right?) position for a good the rest of the movie……
-
Yeah personally, I like watching french horror films with subtitles. I know some french so that’s pretty helpful. Then again, I’m not exactly fluent in the language. Hearing the actor’s emotion in the film is always best in my IMO.
-
watching that very last scene where she is holding the dead baby makes me terrified everytime i see it…..that whole last scene is a piece of art though…..top five movie all the way!!!
-
Most of the French horror I’ve seen tends to do that. They seem to like to make the viewer think about the movie not for hours but for days. They really stay with you.
-
ever since i saw “Martyrs” for the first time that movie has stuck with me!!!!! i still look at that movie cover and get chills from it……that movie is screwed the hell up!!!!
-
it really does put “Hostel” in its place with the whole torture with a meaning thing…….i cannot say enough good things about “Martyrs”….the only thing that bugs me is that there are some people who actually hate this movie!!!
-
i have a friend who hates it because he says “how could someone make a movie that is so offensive to women?” but he doesnt believe me that i know plenty of women who loved “Martys” and on top of that “Irreversible” and “Inside”……they probably dont like the beating of women or the straight up violence that occured during the whole movie!!! he…[Read more]

Suspiria is by far thee best of the trilogy! The atmosphere, the cinematography and of course the soundtrack is killer!!! Suspiria is the movie that introduced me to Argento and I have been a huge fan since.

suspiria introduced me to him also since i saw it iv loved everyting hes done and his soundtracs r awsome always by goblin and ya lots of people said mother of tears sucked but i loved it especially that his daughter was in it lol
I’m a fairly new Argento fan and I’ve only seen Suspiria so far from the Three Sisters Trilogy so I would have to go with that!
I’ve seen a few of his other films and really like Phenomena, Sleepless and The Card Player.
i agree with phenomena but i thought the card player was crap no offense but u should watce tenebre its one of his best!!!!
None taken! Oh yeah. Forgot about Tenebrae. That is another one that I liked and John Saxon was in it so it gets extra points. His earlier films (the ones that I’ve seen) are definitely the best but I still enjoyed The Card Player. Also, the soundtracks to Suspiria, Tenebrae and Phenomena are some of the best around.
I have yet to see Mother of Tears, so I’ll have to reserve judgement in regards to that yet.
Of the two I’ve seen, Inferno was good, but Suspiria is comparatively… amazing.
