It’s true that a lot of his body of work wasn’t realized for it’s full potential upon release, and thus became commercial failures at the box office. They were equally misunderstood by critics.
But ‘GOM’ was rightfully dismissed, as it is a turgid rehash of a past glory: the magnificent ‘Assault on Precinct 13′. Except it’s been rewritten for the…[Read more]

I’ve joined this group more so because I really enjoyed the second film. If the third is going to follow in a similar vain, and maybe even top the earlier entry, then I’ll be happy as pig in shit! ‘Wrong Turn 2′ fucking rocked, and I’m hoping ‘Wrong Turn 3′ will rock even harder! But I have to be honest, I absolutely hated the first film.

Aside from ‘Halloween’, next to that, it’s got to be ‘Assault on Precinct 13′. An absolutely brilliant musical score:

‘Vampires’ is by no means a good film. But I think it’s made watchable for the brilliant performance by the great, James Woods. Other that though, it’s definitely one of John Carpenter’s worst. But it’s just about passable entertainment compared to ‘Ghosts of Mars’, which is just totally unwatchable!

I want to ask what you think John Carpenter’s worst film is?

Now, I’ve got to make it clear first, that I’m a big fan of Carpenter’s work on the whole. I consider his greatest to be ‘Assault on Precinct 13′ (1976), ‘Halloween’ (1978), ‘The Fog’ (1980), and ‘The Thing’ (1982). I also like ‘Escape from New York’ (1981), ‘Christine’ (1983), ‘Big…[Read more]

In reply to: The_Shape78 posted an update in the group John Carpenter Fans Hands down, has to be Halloween. This is without a doubt the best film made, in my opinion. Check out my review for more. View

‘Halloween’ (1978), is not only my favorite John Carpenter film, but my all time favorite horror film. If I had to choose out of all the movies I love in the genre – this would be my number 1! I know it like the back of my hand! If I was asked to list my all time top ten flicks, then ‘Halloween’ would be in there as my horror choice; no doubt…[Read more]

  • I love the original. But I’ve always thought, while not as good, that ‘Predator 2′ is a decent follow up; a worthy sequel. Much better than the piss poor AVP spin offs anyway! Well, what do you lot think?

    • I always liked the sequel. It was a follow up that had a completely different feel to it which was cool.
Speaking of which I was in Santa Monica a coupla days ago and whilst walking along the beach some guy stuck his head out from one of the beach front apartments…it was Gary Busey. :he:

    • :he::he: Nice!!

I’ve always liked the sequel. It’s lacking in the Arnie department, but it’s got great sequences. I love the
      meat locker scene.

    • Hell yes ! Predator 2 is a more than worthy sequel in my opinion. It had an overall different feel to the first but I thought it was great that they had the Predator going after gangs. The opening battle is a standout, as are all the other set pieces, especially the meat freezer and subsequent chase across the cityscapes. Bring on the 3rd movie !

    • It’s a worthy follow-up, not as good as the first movie though. What I like are the new predator weapons. Some of the action scenes are a bit cheesy (the first shootout for example) and the setting; LA 1997 (lol).

    • its a decent sequel not great, but memorable.

    • yea it was good !from a real jungle to the concrete jungle !cant wait for the avp game coming out in 2010!!:chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw::chainsaw:

    • Predator 2 while not in the same league as T2 or Aliens etc.. Is still a good film. To cut to the chase, here’s a list of positives and negatives.

Adopting an urban setting gave the Predator a lot more slice and dice options, the scenes in the Colombian’s weapon cache, the Jamaican slaughter in the apartment, the subway…[Read more]

    • [U]Negatives [/U]

The claustrophobic suspense of the original was sacrificed by the urban setting.

The Predator get’s owned a bit too easily in this one, by Danny Glover!!? In the original, Arnie got completely fucked up and only defeated the Predator by a spur of the moment opportunity. In this one, Predator gets shot, gets pushed off a…[Read more]

I love the first two films equally. ‘Alien 3′ and ‘Alien: Resurrection’, are depressingly disappointing sequels. The AVP spin offs are even worse! I hope Ridley Scott, at least makes a decent prequel, or obviously at most something great. This once brilliant franchise, is due some long awaited respect again!

‘Cabin Fever’ was a competent debut and very entertaining. ‘Hostel’ was an even better follow up, with ‘Hostel: Part II’ being Eli Roth’s best work so far. Anybody excited for the upcoming ‘Toolbox Murders’ sequel?

I really enjoyed the original; one of the better slashers so far of the 21st century. I had very low expectations for it, despite the hype at the time; Tobe Hooper has mostly made god awful horror films. Two great exceptions are of course the classics, ‘TCM’ and Poltergeist. But I was…[Read more]
