‘What We Become’ Looks Like Every Other Zombie Apocalypse Movie

WHAT WE BECOME

Alright guys, you all know that I try my absolute best to be positive and see the best in everything, right? I’ve written about horror movies I love that others seem to hate. However, this new trailer for What We Become has me rather worried.

The immediate vibe I get once the zombie apocalypse unrolls is that it looks almost identical to every other film of its kind. The zombies look the same, there’s the same kind of debris and destruction (are zombies randomly throwing tons of paper out building windows?), and there are the obvious jump scares that we’ve seen employed dozens of times before, if not hundreds.

Still, there are some good reviews for the movie, so I’ll definitely check it out. I’ll just go in with low expectations. And who knows? Maybe that will mean I’ll be happily surprised!

In What We Become:

The Johansson family’s idyllic summer is brought to an abrupt halt as deaths stack up from a virulent strand of the flu. The authorities start off by cordoning-‐off the neighborhood, but soon panic and force the inhabitants into quarantine in their hermetically- ‐sealed houses. Isolated from the rest of the world, teen Gustav spies out and realizes that the situation is getting out of control. He breaks out, but soon the family of four comes under attack from the riotous, blood-‐thirsty mob who forces them to the extreme to escape alive.

What We Become was written and directed by Bo Mikkelsen and stars Mille Dinesen, Troels Lyby, Benjamin Engell and Marie Hammer Boda. It will be released in limited NY and LA theaters as well as VOD on May 13th.
