Mike Flanagan, who has already impressed the hell out of me with his underrated Oculus as well as the frightening Netflix movie Hush, is behind Ouija: Origin of Evil, which takes the franchise is a completely different direction.
The sequel takes place in 1965 Los Angeles where a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their séance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. The youngest daughter is overtaken by the merciless spirit, forcing this small family to confront unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.
Annalise Basso, Parker Mack (Divergent), Sam Anderson, Kate Siegel (Oculus), Doug Jones (Hellboy), Elizabeth Reaser, Henry Thomas, and Lulu Wilson star in the film, which comes from Universal Pictures, Platinum Dunes, Blumhouse Productions and Hasbro.
Ouija opens on October 21, 2016.
