1995 ‘Judge Dredd’ Recut to Feel More Like the 2012 Version

Published

on

While I can fully admit that 2012’s Dredd is a superior movie in pretty much every single way to 1995’s Judge Dredd, I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for that film. Yes, it’s terrible. Yes, it’s laughable. Yes, it’s a goddamn mess that made fans of the comic grown from the opening screen to the end of the credits (and probably more after that). But don’t you dare tell me it isn’t fun because you know it and I sure as hell love it for that. It’s one of those movies where I shut off my brain, sit back for 90-ish minutes, and just bask in some of the most ridiculous overacting I’ve ever seen. All that being said, Dredd is clearly a better film. Karl Urban nailed the titular character, the overall look was perfect, the action was visceral and intense, and it simply felt like a true representation of Rebellion’s comic.

But what would happen if you took the audio and intensity of the 2012 film’s trailer and applied it to footage from the 1995 version? Well, it turns out that you’ll get a version of Judge Dredd that looks surprisingly close to the newer film! As ridiculous and impossible as that sounds, I promise you that it’s 100% true. I’m kinda blown away by the work done here as it proves that a little bit of clever editing can completely deceive people when it comes to the final product. If this were the trailer for Judge Dredd back in the day, can you imagine how much more pissed people would’ve been when they saw it? Yikes!

Cheers to ScreenGeek for the great video!
