Boaz Yakin’s (Safe, Remember the Titans) horror thriller Boarding School has been picked up for international rights by IM Global, according to Deadline. The film is currently in post-production and no release information has been given.
A horrifying fable about an ominous boarding school where children deemed ‘undesirable’ are committed. Twelve-year- old Jacob Felson is sent away by his stepfather to the mysterious school run by a peculiar couple, Dr. Sherman and his dominating wife. When one of the students is found dead, Jacob begins to suspect something much more sinister is going on than education.
I really dig these kinds of movies where kids are the main characters and not relegated to being annoying side characters to adults. It’s like in Resident Evil 4 when you have to escort Ashley. All those moments are infuriating and annoying. But when you get to play as her, suddenly, there’s a totally different vibe as you feel helpless and exposed. With Boarding School, I’m hopeful that the kids aren’t annoying and are instead fleshed out and have something to offer.
The film stars Will Patton (The Mothman Prophecies, The Fourth Kind), Samantha Mathis (American Psycho), Sterling Jerins (The Conjuring 1 & 2), Luke Prael, and Tammy Blanchard (The Invitation, Into the Woods).
