The ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Opening Sequence is Just Like the One From the Anime

Published

on

Yesterday, the first trailer for the anime-to-film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell was released. Before hitting the net, there was a press event, which showed off props and outfits from the film as well as an interview with stars Scarlett Johansson and “Beat” Takeshi Kitano as well as director Rupert Sanders. But the big surprise was when they revealed the film’s take on the anime’s opening segment, which ushered forth a new composition from composer Kenji Kawai that included live drums, according to IGN. The press were allowed to film the sequence, which is why you can watch it below.

Ghost in the Shell tells the story of The Major (Scarlett Johansson), a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson, Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk.

Ghost in the Shell hacks its way into theaters on March 31st, 2017.
