WORLD OF DEATH Ep. 36 – Meet Meat Mathilda / Meat Pie

Published

on

Considering the abrasive political climate in my homeland, Polish Director Lukasz Pytlik’s WOD offering, Meet Meat Mathilda, is about what you expect from a totally batshit piece of incendiary political commentary. If you’re cognizant of the political machinations involved in Serbian filmmaker Srđan Spasojević’s utterly insane, profoundly satirical 2010 epic, Serbian Film, then you’ll find this to be equally compelling. Sure this shortie is low in production value, but I’m a big fan of the experimental bent, especially if it possesses rich subtext, and controversial themes of fucking substance. Oddly enough, Meet Meat Mathilda may not be the first schizo-doll-fetish and abortion debate effort that I’ve seen, but don’t let that diminish its bold, daring vision, complex ideas, and flat-out audacity. Politically speaking, this gore-and-gonzo mini-movie may be ridiculously offensive to some, but it takes some fucking moxie to turn what appears to be a gross-out piece of exploitation trash into a surprisingly intelligent crash-course in socially conscious politico-art. Pro-choice? Pro-life? Pro-WOD.

Order up. Directors David Royal and Andrew Peters dish up a surprise with their meat-and-murder movie, Meat Pie. I’ll admit, you’ve seen this menu before, the acting chops are less than generous and the film ends before it really gets cooking, but the film heaps on the gore with aplomb and you’ll probably lose your appetite after a brief serving. The masked killer (somebody is obviously a fan of Friday the 13th Part 2) may not be the most pioneer choice, but it was wicked enough to make the WOD trailer. Meat Pie keeps the tone dark, the atmosphere consistent, and the blood and wine flowing. Dinner is fucking served.
