‘Resident Evil’ Clip Drops Alice and Co. into THE HIVE!

Courtesy of Sony Screen Gems

We have yet another new clip from Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, this time is super clean HD in which Alice (Milla Jovovich), Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and their motley crew end up back in the hive. The clip sort of gives a small homage to Star Wars, only with a more SAW dillema.

Iain Glen also returns as Dr. Isaacs, with Shawn Roberts playing Albert Wesker once again. New additions also include Ruby Rose as Abigail, Eoin Macken (The Night Shift) as Doc, Cuban American actor William Levy as Christian, Fraser James (“Law & Order: UK”) as Michael, and Japanese model and TV personality Rola as Cobalt.

[Set Visit Report] A Know-It-All Guide to ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’!

“Picking up immediately after the events in ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.”

The final chapter in the Resident Evil series opens in theaters January 27th.

  • Is it my idea of the editing of this Resident evil flick is a bit frantic? The previous ones with the exception of the truly atrocious Apocalypse had solid camera work and lengthy takes

    • Trisha Tachanawa

I thought I was only one lol the editing seems abit off in a way but frantic is the perfect description.

    • REC03

Usually clips released by the studio are edited or they re-hired the editor of Apocalypse im not sure.

      • I agree – usually clips are shorter but this one was like an acid trip…without the acid. And Anderson is relatively known to have either glorious slo mo or lengthy takes and wide shots.

      • Vicente Garcia

Have you seen the other clips from this movie? The editing is so frantic that it makes Apocalypse’s edit seem leisurely by comparison.

      • J Jett

REC03, that is true (that most times these promo clips are edited down) and this Hive trap door clip IS edited (notice the guy in the red hair is with the group (before Claire & Alice fall into the traps) but then suddenly he’s just gone. lol.

that being said, every review (the film opened in Japan a couple of weeks(?) ago) i’ve read about the film says the editing is so bad you can’t tell what the F you are seeing. i’m bummed because everything else about this movie looks fantastic.

        • REC03

well that is very disappointing to hear because even though he gets a lot of flack i think Paul usually directs action pretty smoothly.

    • Vicente Garcia

None of you are off–series editor Niven Howie was replaced by Doobie White, who’s only previous feature editing credits are GAMER and CRANK 2–both of which have terrible edits filled with jump cuts and quick cuts. This appears to be White’s style, but it’s absolutely terrible–I work as a professional editor and can’t believe how badly some of the clip I’ve seen are edited. This clip is actually the best edited scene I’ve seen so far, and it’s still barely decent.

      • oh no. This is going to suck then. I loved afterlife and retribution. All the hyper stylized shots. But this is just terrible. I could barely follow what was going on…and in addition the previous clips as you mentioned followed the same style. Damn

        • Vicente Garcia

^Have you seen this clip? It’s a literal nightmare trying to follow what’s happening in each shot. Now imagine that…for 106 minutes. With 3D glasses on. In the dark.

EDIT: And yeah, I LOVED the polished edits of the last two. All that slo-mo made for the best IMAX 3D ever.

          • Oh.My.God. Paul Anderson what have you done?

          • Vicente Garcia

Yeah, all the action scenes are edited like that…I could tell you didn’t know when you said the “into the hive” clip was a “bit frantic”. I read your comment, chuckled, and thought to myself “man, he has no idea how bad it really is…” haha.

          • J Jett

            here’s 2 more clips with atrocious editing…

          • J Jett

and the 2nd clip (the bad editing i’m referring to is only during the attack scene)…

          • Honest

Wow. That was physically unpleasant to watch. That could be the best written, acted, scored movie ever made and it wouldn’t matter, that is unwatchable. I literally cannot watch this movie (I was looking forward to some dumb fun) because that was nauseating. There are so many people who could have done a better job. I’ve seen better edited ISIS videos. Christ, at least those build tension. (Possibly the worst joke I’ve ever made)

        • J Jett

doomas10, i despise the god awful editing in the action shots in this final RE movie too (from every clip they’ve released thus far). the scary thing is that the clip posted in the above article (the Hive trap door) is easily THE best, most normal, easy to see what’s happening clip out of any of the clips (action scenes)! so if you dislike this Hive trap door clip’s editing then you may hate the far worse action scenes (i hope not though!).

      • J Jett

Vicente, are you vf-garcia? hey there man, it’s JJett (from IMDB!)!

        • Vicente Garcia

          The one and only!!
