Is ‘Jeepers Creepers 3’ Actually a Prequel of Sorts?

When we jumped from Jeepers Creepers to Jeepers Creepers 2, we didn’t really know what ever came of The Creeper in between the two films. If you were curious, rumor has it that the third film, now in post-production, will actually bridge those two films.

Twitter user @HusaSmith has been poking me with information as of late that’s pretty interesting. He alleges that the majority of the film takes place in 2001, and shared the following tweet that star Stan Shaw sent out to a fan:

Further evidence comes via Jeepers Creepers II star Marieh Delfino, who responded to one fan with the following:

Lastly, the Bloody Disgusting reader shared a conversation he had directly with Dalton Smith, who plays the Creeper’s double. Dalton stressed that this film is in fact a prequel that place between the first two films.

With that, we’re learning that the online synopsis was old and was the plot for the now defunct Cathederal. Victor Salva has since rewritten the script, which makes this new sequel/prequel a bit of a mystery.

What we do know for sure is that Gina Phillips does in fact return as Trish, although it’s being pegged as a cameo. It’s unclear if this bit will help bridge the two films or hypothetically set up the fourth at the end.

The original 2001 movie starred Justin Long and Philips as a brother and sister who run across a creature known as the Creeper, who feasts on body parts to make it part of its own. The sequel Jeepers Creepers 2 followed in 2003.

Also starring are Jonathan Breck as the Creeper, Meg Foster (They Live), Chester Rushing (“Stranger Things“), Ryan Moore (Pitchfork), Patrick Thomas Cragin (“How to Be a Vampire”), Brandon Smith (“From Dusk Till Dawn”), Gabrielle Haugh (Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?), and Justin Hall (Django Unchained). Michael Papajohn, Megan Elizabeth Wright, Jason Bayle, Cade Burk, Joyce Giraud, and Jordan Salloum, Don Yesso, David Davis, Brandon Stacy, Casey Hendershot, Thomas Francis Murphy, and Carrie Lazar also have roles in the production.

EDITORS NOTE: We at Bloody Disgusting acknowledge and condemn the crimes committed by Victor Salva, but we also do not believe it is our place to filter the news and will continue to deliver Jeepers Creepers headlines. We leave it up to you to decide if you will support his films or not, and you can read our stance on the subject here.

Ok now they are making to dang confusing…….stick with the original story! No one wants a prequel! Unless it was from the past in the Old West…. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9e7713caef322e3fe81d928825bd93274828ffd3c194bc165dc378541992f70e.png

Jeepers Creepers set during the Old West would be awesome!

  • nowaygetreal

This is really disappointing. All I’ve ever wanted in life is more Jack Taggart Sr.

  • Alexander McNeill

I’ve suspected this for a while now and while admittedly disappointing at first, I’m over it. It doesn’t matter when Jeepers Creepers 3 is set, because it’s fucking Jeepers Creepers 3 – I’ve been waiting so long I’ll take whatever they give me. And I think it’ll be pretty cool to revisit 2001 again! CANNOT wait.

  • Calavera

Maybe the movie tells a story about a child molester who uses movie sets to sexually abuse kids. After a while, people start ignoring it and the pedo returns to a new set where he can pursue his old hobby.

No, wait…that’s not a movie plot, that’s reality.

    • Joe Brick (TGOL)

This fuck wants movies about pedophiles and child molesters, report this freak

      • Buffalo Bill

Wow. You’re really really REALLY stupid, aren’t you?

        • Joe Brick (TGOL)

No, I don’t condone anyone suggesting that the movie should be about sexually abusing kids, that’s not appropriate. BB maybe you’re the pot calling the kettle black much!

          • Buffalo Bill

He wasn’t suggesting that the movie should be about sexually abusing kids. He was making a sarcastic remark regarding the film’s director (Victor Salva, who is a convicted child rapist). Someone even pointed that out to you, yet you still don’t seem to get it… hence my assertion that you aren’t very intelligent.

          • Joe Brick (TGOL)

Even if that’s his reason that’s still inappropriate behaviour making light of any form of abuse. Smh

          • KennyThaKilla

Well go find a safe space so you can have a good cry about it.

      • TheVacuousSpider

He’s obviously referring to the real life case of Victor Salva, the director of this film, who is a convicted child molester… Sarcasm, you know…

    • Michael Hill

      yawn

  • DBZEROGRAVITY

well shit, then we kind of already know how it ends then…

  • pablitonizer

Well, it means JC3 will begin with Trish after his brother was taken away by the creeper and a new story will be developed? Meh…I need Trish’s revenge here so bad!!!!

    • J Jett

same here! all i really care about is Trish going after/getting her revenge against the Creeper! i’m not really loving this idea of prequel set between parts 1 & 2.

  • Keith

I must be behind on news for this then. I thought the story was about Trish having a son and worried he’ll be taken so she goes on a hunt to kill the creeper? That sounded cool.

    • al343806

Agreed. It sounds like that was the old plot and potentially may be revisited if this does well? Not sure, but I liked the idea of seeing the psychological damage the Creeper would have years later on Trish.

  • J Jett

not loving that this movie is set between parts 1 & 2 but at least Gina is returning.

  • Nicolas Caiveau

An interquel so ? Why not, but I wanted to see the sequel taking place 23 years later, as it was planned. Maybe for JC 4 ?

    • Patrick Michael Dempsey

Same. I feel like it’s gonna be another 15 years before part 4 comes out

      • Nicolas Caiveau

At least if JC 4 is a real sequel and we have to wait… They should release it in 2023, 23 years after the original movie, as he’s supposed to come back every 23 years.

    • Carlton Fisher

      Midquel?

      • Nicolas Caiveau

Oh maybe I always confuse those words, they’re so rarely used. So ‘interquel’ must be a movie set during a gap of another movie. There’s also paraquel (like 300 Rise of an empire)

        • Carlton Fisher

LOL–I didn’t even know if it was a real word or not. I was just making stuff up. At the rate Hollywood is going, we’ll need to have a term for a movie that takes place between the last shot and the end credits of the third movie of a franchise versus a film that takes place between the second and third acts of the sixth movie of a rebooted series, and another film that takes place during that part of that movie you loved where you had to get up and go to the bathroom because you drank too much soda (Pissquel?).

  • RJ MacReady

I hope this isn’t accurate. We’ve been waiting for 14 years for some resolution for Trish. I was really hoping this would pick up right at the end of JC2 and the Creeper would wake up hanging in the barn after 23 years.

  • Joe Smith

Dissapointed if this is true. Wanted the prequel and see Even Older Ray Wise kick ass!

  • Bart Crowe

Should have just done a one and done with Jeepers Creepers. Or at the very least they should keep the creature in the shadows as much as possible because it is a goofy looking design.

    • KennyThaKilla

Completely disagree. JC put the creature back in creature feature.

      • Vesuvian Villain

I think you’re both right. Overall, JC was great for bringing a new practical effects monster worthy of a franchise. However, I always thought the concept for his general look could have been better. When his face opens up and you get a good look at what he’s capable of it’s pretty awesome but until that happens, take off his hat and shine some light on him and the makeup is more goofy than scary.

  • Travis Ignaffo

As long i get to see the creeper eat some body parts and plaster the bodies on the walls of his lair I’ll be a happy viewer. That church basement scene in the original film really stuck with me.

  • Josh Nitsche

How does someone not involved with the film get access to the script? Do they always give those out to former cast members? Would John Saxon receive a script for Nightmare 4?

  • ThunderDragoon

Sooo, can we assume the ending of JC3 takes place after the ending of JC2? Because it would be pointless to have Gina back otherwise for this whole takes-place-between-JC1-and-JC2 nonsense. In that case, we already know how it ends. Plus, she’ll obviously look older than she did in 2001 if they go that route. I’m really holding out hope that the last minutes of JC3 take place after JC2’s ending. If not, that’s a real bummer. And the whole reason this movie exists the way it does is because the higher-ups didn’t want it taking place 23 years later. Ray Wise said that on the Scream Factory Blu-ray for JC2. So even if they pull some cool thing with the ending, they probably won’t be able to make JC4 until 2021. XD (which really isn’t that far anyway) This is just one big mess. At least the movie’s finished filming, though. Never thought that would happen.

  • Vesuvian Villain

If they’re going to bring Trish back to hunt the Creeper that’s cool but I just don’t want them to overdo it. Don’t turn her into some kind of badass. This isn’t Underworld, don’t make her a caricature. She needs to be determined but still vulnerable. Ray Wise was a badass but he was grounded. He didn’t go learn Kung fu or some shit, he just used things he had at his disposal as a farmer.

I liked JC1 because it was about average people dealing with something unknown and terrifying. Even if Ray Wise hypothetically came back, hunting him down and beating him in Part 2 shouldn’t make him some kind of expert in Part 3. I don’t want a whole lot of backstory on where he came from or how it all started. Savor the mystery, stay focused on the survival. That’s my 2 cents.

  • Shane o mac

So there is gonna be a 4th JC movie? Nice. Just hope it doesn’t take as long to make as this one did

  • Trent Owens

really they are gonna string the fans on again for how long for a part 4? jesus christ they should have just finished it with the Trish story line and let it be done now we will have to wait another 10 years…..

  • Kingsbury

Guess we know that don’t kill the creeper at the end then.

  • I loved Jeepers Creepers films but I really hope the new film won’t be a prequel between the first and the second installment! I wish it to be a sequel, I want to watch Trish fighting The Creeper for the last time.

However, I can see this franchise turning to be something really bad like The Wrong Turn, the first 2 were great the horrible prequels f*cked with everything, hope to be wrong about that.

  • Forca84

Gina Phillips is beautiful. But I wonder if they will have to de-age her a bit with CGI or lighting to make her look like 2001 Trish. (Not saying she is ready for the Nursing home either.)

  • megan williams

Interesting. I’m guessing this one will ignore the second film then, coz the 2nd one was set the morning after the events of the first film.

  • felipevillanuevac

Enough of prequels!! Move forward people!!!

  • Halloween_Vic

I mean an explanation of his becoming and exactly what he is and comes from is ok and continue on with a sequel but a prequel that takes place between the first two films ehhh doesn’t really seem all that interesting. I hope it’s good I’ve been looking forward to this.

  • Halloween_Vic

Trish needs her Laurie Strode and Sidney Prescott moment!!!!

  • If Rob Zombie ever feels the desire to ever make a new Captain Spaulding/Firefly Family film it’ll likely take this approach upon being an in-between-quel(as JEEPPERS CREEPERS 3 seemingly is),with a few of the 31 characters mixed in.
