In Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled, world premiering at the 2017 Cannes International Film Festival, Colin Farrell plays a wounded enemy soldier during the Civil War who is given shelter at an all-girls boarding shool.
The trailer shows that Farrell is up to no good, looking more like a wolf in sheep’s clothing than one of the good guys. It’s unclear what he does to infuriate the ladies, but it looks like the saying “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned” is the central theme of The Beguiled, which boasts an insane cast that also includes Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning. Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice, Emma Howard, and Addison Riecke also star.
‘The Beguiled’ is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.
Focus Features will release The Beguiled in select cities on June 23, 2017, expanding to more theaters on June 30, 2017.
