‘Polaroid’ Trailer Developed, Mixes ‘Final Destination’ with ‘Lights Out’

You won’t want to shake this Polaroid picture.

While we wait for Dimension Films to release the latest Amityville Horror, they’ve set an December 1, 2017, date for Lars Klevberg’s hotly anticipated Polaroid, which now has a trailer. The footage reminds me of the terrifying Thai horror film Shutter, while also channeling the James Wan-produced Lights Out, also based on a short. The biggest connection to our horror roots, however, comes in the revealed device that a shadow within the polaroids dictates who will die next, which sounds like something out of a Final Destination film. While the trailer does remind us of some other horror classics, it also looks really well made and extremely fun. This summer is looking frightening! What do you think?

Polaroid stars Kathryn Prescott (The Hive), Mitch Pileggi (“The X-Files”), Grace Zabriskie (The Grudge), Tyler Young (Eyewitness), Keenan Tracey (“Bates Motel”), Samantha Logan (The Fosters), Priscilla Quintana (Stranded), Madelaine Petsch (“Riverdale”) and Javier Botet (Mama).

High school loner Bird Fitcher (Prescott) has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end.

The film is produced by Roy Lee (The Ring, Blair Witch) and Chris Bender (The Ring, The History of Violence). Written by Blair Butler, it’s based on the short by Lars Klevberg.

  • You know times are tough for the Polaroid brand when they’re lending their name to horror flicks.

Yay teen morons who don’t believe at the beginning then later get paranoid and blame the main character for their stupidity

It feels like one of those forgotten Japanese remakes they forgot they had it and try to release it.

Looks like it’ll be a fun double feature to have with WISH UPON. I’m a sucker for teen horror.

  • Necro

Looks ok as does ‘Wish Upon’. Although I prefer rated R but who knows maybe one of these will surprise me.

It doesn’t look like something from Final Destination! It looks like something out of Goosebumps! Seriously! How can you go an entire article without mentioning this being a clear and obvious take on Say Cheese and Die! Just one article! Come on!

Someone use it to take a picture of the tape from The Ring while using a planchette glued to the Hellraiser puzzle box on the Ouiji board from the films of the same name in the hotel from The Shining while Godspeed You Black Emperor plays. That would be watchable.

  • Michael Brimer

    hipster The Ring?

  • Kyle Cole

    Cant wait!!!

  • diapers

On the one hand, this looks a little formulaic, yet I’m an absolute pushover for this type of film when done properly. This is getting a wide release? Would be a fun popcorn flick.

I have an old polaroid. I can’t find anywhere that makes film for it anymore. I laughed at this, which is why I probably won’t be seeing it. It might be craptastic, but I doubt it. I should get my old clunker from 1981 out of my storage, let’s see if it’s haunted or not. LOL

It’s like if shit and garbage got together to make a movie.
