Look, it’s Kiefer Sutherland in ‘Flatliners’!

There’s a pretty huge surprise in the opening seconds of the new Flatliners television spot as Kiefer Sutherland makes a surprise appearance!

Kiefer starred as Nelson in the original 1990 sci-fi/thriller of the same name and is clearly playing one of the head doctors above the new group of medical students featuring Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemens.

It was previously reported that this isn’t a remake but actually a sequel.

I play a professor at the medical university. It is never stated but it will probably be very clearly understood that I’m the same character I was in the original ‘Flatliners’ but that I have changed my name and I’ve done some things to move on from the experiments that we were doing in the original film,” Sutherland told Metro last July.

In Niels Arden Oplev’s Flatliners, five medical students, hoping to gain insight into the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment. By stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience. As the investigation becomes more and more perilous, they are forced to confront the sins of their pasts, as well as contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side.

Thanks to Michael Magnano for the excellent tip!

    This film is totally unnecessary.

A film with this cast is probably not unnecessary.
The casting has great taste so I’m expecting the film to be very much worthwhile.

I agree. Flatliners (original) wasn’t all that great to begin with, and a remake isn’t required. As with all things of this ilk; I fully expect this to flop. I haven’t checked out the filming budget but I only hope that it is somewhat small.

This is the thing with remakes – if people remake a classic then it’s not necessary, they should be remaking stuff that wasn’t great to begin with – but then when they do that, why bother remaking it, it wasn’t great in the first place!

I’m 50/50 whether I go an check it out at the cinema – if there’s nothing better then I probably will as it’s a day out. Yay.

Well, it’s not a surprise anymore.

Why the hell did they think putting a wig on Keifer looks good.. Stupid idiot film makers

I can’t think of a movie in recent times with a trailer that inspired so much ‘meh’ from me as this one. It looks completely bland in every single respect.
