There have been quite a few horror films set during both World Wars over the last decade or so, and I have to say I’ve always been a fan of the setting. By its nature war evokes images of madness and chaos and films like Michael J. Basset’s mind-bending Deathwatch or Richard Raaphorst‘s Frankenstein’s Army capture that beautifully.
Well, now it’s Canada’s turn to tackle the subject with Leo Scherman‘s WWI-set shocker, Trench 11. The film was selected to premiere at this year’s Screamfest and we’ve got the first trailer for you.
Trench 11 stars Rossif Sutherland (yes, of the Sutherland clan), along with award-winning French Canadian actress Karine Vanasse (The Forbidden Room), Charlie Carrick (Reign), Shaun Benson (Channel Zero), and Ted Atherton (River).
In the final days of WWI a shell-shocked tunneller must lead an Allied team into a hidden German base…100 hundred feet below the trenches. The Germans have lost control of a highly contagious biological weapon that turns its victims into deranged killers. The Allies find themselves trapped underground with hordes of the infected, a rapidly spreading disease and a team of German Stormtroopers dispatched to clean up the mess.
The only thing more terrifying than the Western Front… is what lies beneath it.
Trench 11 will see distribution in Canada from Raven Banner Entertainment.
