Epic ‘Beyond Skyline’ Trailer Hits Every Sci-fi Sweet Spot

The Purge franchise’s Frank Grillo stars in director Liam O’Donnell’s Beyond Skyline, which looks bonkers. The latest trailers have all been impressive, and now these previously shared new images hark back to classics such as Predator and Alien. In the newly released trailer, it also hits every other recent sci-fi sweet spot from Transformers to Prometheus, Pacific Rim, Independence Day, and even Jurassic Park.

After premiering at the upcoming Cinepocalypse in Chicago this coming November, Vertical Entertainment will go Beyond Skyline on December 15, 2017.

In the film,

When the population of Los Angeles is vacuumed off the face of the earth, Detective Mark Corley (Frank Grillo) storms his way onto an alien ship to rescue his estranged son. But after crashing the ship in Southeast Asia, he must forge an alliance with a band of survivors to discover the key to saving his son and taking back the planet once and for all.

The full cast includes Bojana Novakovic (Drag Me to Hell, Devil), Jonny Weston (Under the Bed, Project Almanac), Iko Uwais, Callan Mulvey, Antonio Fargas, Pamelyn Chee, Yayan Ruhian, Jacob Vargas, Valentine Payen, Betty Gabriel, Jack Chausse, and Kevin O’Donnell.  O’Donnell also wrote the film.

You know I get why some people didn’t like the first movie, I personally really enjoyed it, and am really looking forward to this new one.
Maybe I have bad tastes in movies, I dunno, but count me in for it.

I liked the first one! It was a good movie and at the end was surprising

Hmm. I was rather unimpressed with the first Skyline. *SPOILERS* While I liked the idea of humans being up against an alien foe that doesn’t have a “shoot us here” weak spot and thus actually can defeat us (like War of the Worlds minus the deus ex machina bit involving earthly germs) and I think going after human brains is a worthwhile goal (little biological computers, our brains are), the film was full of unlikeable and non-compelling characters, making the so-called character moments just long and unenjoyable. The aliens are a bit TOO unbeatable (somehow able to reconstruct a spaceship after it being utterly nuked? Too much magic in your tech there, screenwriters) and it also had a pretty laughable ending. So do I have much confidence about this film? I might have if the trailer wasn’t showing the main character pointing a pistol at aliens who, again, can walk off a nuke blast. But at least the premise looks better than the first film.

i loved the first film and am happy to say that this sequel looks even better than it’s predecessor (unlike the PACIFIC RIM sequel which looks god awful)!

  • Ryan Jackson

I love Grillo man and this looks miles better than the original, but Iko will steal every scene he’s in. Most badass dude I’ve ever seen in a movie.

  • Patrick Curley

Looks better than the original but I still don’t have very high expectations
