The legendary Greg Cannom has won three Oscars and been nominated for seven others dating back to 1991, earning mainstream acclaim for his work on films such as Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire, Titanic, A Beautiful Mind and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
But Cannom has spent much of his career in the horror genre, winning one of those three Academy Awards for his contributions to Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula and working on countless other horror films over the years. Cannom was on the makeup effects teams for some of the best practical effects-heavy ’80s horror movies, including The Howling, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Lost Boys and Fright Night Part II.
Cannom also served as a makeup effects artist on four episodes of HBO’s “Tales from the Crypt,“ additionally working on The Exorcist III, Alien 3, Idle Hands, Hannibal (2001), Van Helsing and, most recently, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
We bring up Greg Cannom today because he’s been chosen as one of two 2018 recipients for the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Awards!
“The Lifetime Achievement Award is given annually to one make-up artist and one hair stylist for career achievement, exceptional contributions to the motion picture arts and sciences or outstanding service to their union or the entertainment industry,” reports Deadline.
Mary Guerreo will also be honored at the ceremony on February 28.
