Massive Monster Mayhem Unleashed in Wildly Entertaining ‘Rampage’ Trailer

Massive Monster Mayhem Unleashed in Wildly Entertaining ‘Rampage’ Trailer

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is once again tasked with saving the entire world (he’s damn good at that, in case you couldn’t tell) in San Andreas director Brad Peyton’s Rampage, an adaptation of the same-named arcade game from the ’80s.

A massive, mutated gorilla, werewolf and oh yeah, the crocodile from the game totally makes an appearance too, are on full display in the official trailer, which promises a wildly entertaining good time – even if it looks visually drab, lacking in personality, and, well, like a movie you’ve probably already seen on the big screen before.

Also, is that *not* the Abominable Snowman from the Goosebumps movie?!

But come on. The Rock vs. giant monsters. We are so completely on board.

Get ready to Rampage on April 20, 2018.

In the film, “Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.

The screenplay is by Ryan Engle and Adam Sztykiel, story by Ryan Engle.

Rampage also stars Oscar nominee Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Malin Akerman (TV’s Billions), Jake Lacy (TV’s Girls), Joe Manganiello (TV’s True Blood) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (TV’s The Walking Dead); as well as P.J. Byrne (Final Destination 5), Marley Shelton (Solace), Breanne Hill (San Andreas), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), and Matt Gerald (TV’s Daredevil).

Missed opportunity not to have them been were-creatures. Why bother licensing the game to make a movie? It’s not like people were clamoring for a Rampage movie to begin with.

    • MODOK

Good point, though maybe it would be too unbelievable that normal humans could become building-size monsters. It’s silly and harmless fun in a video game, but it might be too ridiculous in the context of a movie.

Besides they pay for the name and general concept, not necessarily the precise details of the game. Simply attaching the classic name “Rampage” to it brings a lot more cachet than any original title would’ve.

      • Grimphantom

Still going with the generic route of making normal animals as monsters it’s a meh concept which it’s unfortunate that they don’t take risk and play it safe but that’s a double edge sword for them.

    • Joshua Martyniouk

They can’t reveal all the surprises in the trailer plus WB is trying to make this a franchise which is amazing!
This is going to be awesome!

      • Saturn

Only if Johnathon Schaech has that cameo role I’ve heard about….

  • Grimphantom

Does look ok but agreed with Joeln with not having turned into were-creatures also i feel they are trying too hard on mixing the drama and comedy, i mean the scene of The Rock worrying about his Ape friend and we have a scene of him being an idiot of not handling the controls of the Helicopter.

  • I’m not very impressed, the movie looks… just ok. The action seems pretty generic (yes maybe the big action beats are hidden) and there’s nothing really, well, new.

  • pablitonizer

Horrible trailer with a weak story that has been seen many times… well, it’s the rock, I don’t get the love for that man

  • Simon Allen

The CGI looks dodgy as hell especially the werewolves (why can’t movies get them right?)…..I thought that they had moved forward in technology with CGI like in World War Z and some of the marvel movies it looked pretty good but lately when they use it in movies its looking really crappy again and ruining stuff .
Also I used to like The Rock but he’s starting to annoy me .

    • I’m hoping this is one of those cases where it will look better in the finished product, but isn’t completely polished yet in the trailer. Though I’ve never understood why studios put out trailers where the CGI hasn’t been completely finished yet, since it just tends to start bad word-of-mouth going.

      • Simon Allen

It makes no sense that a studio will release footage that actually makes a movie look crappy but this is Hollywood the land of no sense 🙂 .

        • Saturn

More like the land of nonces……

          Ahem – allegedly.

          • Simon Allen

            Titter .

      • NoGutzNoGory

Every “big movie” trailer that is released months in advance have incomplete FX shots. It will probably look way better come April. WETA is handling the work.

        • Simon Allen

Did they do Skull Island ?

          • Barry El Beardo

            Wasn’t Skull Island your favourite?

          • Simon Allen

            Oh i LOVED it . 🙂

    • tyler

I feel like this watching the Justice League trailers. It looks like I am watching someone play a video game. The only thing that is real are their heads.

      • American Atheist

Cyborg looks bad, but Green Lantern looked good a while back. I’m not sure why CGI is going backwards.

        • Saturn

          Because it’s all about retro….

          • American Atheist

            Lol.

        • Simon Allen

Have you seen Green Lantern again recently ?
I saw it last week (it turned up on tv here late one night)
The CGI is fucking terrible .

          • American Atheist

Actually, it’s been a while. Lol. I’ll have to dig out the steelbook and rewatch it. I remember the critics butchered that movie and I liked it. I was just disappointed that yellow Sinestro wasn’t in the movie until the end.

I’ve gotten to the point now that if critics don’t like a movie, I’ll end up liking it. I am horror movies fan after all. Critics hate horror movies (and DC movies apparently).

          • Simon Allen

If we listened to critics we’d probably never watch very much at all in our beloved genre and the ones they like i don’t ….Hello: “IT” , “Annabelle – Creation”, and “It comes at night ! .

          • American Atheist

I agree. The critics liked Don’t Breathe, It Follows and Get Out. I didn’t like any of those movies. Don’t Breathe wasn’t even a horror movie. It Follows was the dumbest shit I’ve ever saw and Get Out is beyond overrated. Hell, I just watched watched Gerald’s Game and thought it was boring shit. RT has it at 90%. WTF.

          • Simon Allen

We are cut from the same cloth as i completely agree with you on all counts .
I was dumbfounded at the love for It Follows and i’m well known for loathing everything about Don’t Breathe .
On the other hand everyone seemed to slate Death Note ….which pleasantly surprised me as i enjoyed it .

          • While I liked the first two, I am right there with you on “It Comes at Night” Maybe it was another victim of its hype? I didn’t get to see it in theaters, but it was a day one purchase on disc and I took it home and popped it in immediately because of all the excellent word-of-mouth….and I don’t get the big thrill. I don’t mind movies that are a bit slow, or in which it sometimes seems like “not much is happening.” But there wasn’t really any payoff to it. I got to the end and found myself thinking, “I just sat through 90 minutes for THIS?” I’ll give it another go in about a year or so with reduced expectations and see if that makes a difference, but I think that’s the biggest horror-disappointment of the last year for me.

          • Simon Allen

I was the same with “It Follows “.

          • You know, I watched “It Follows,” and I don’t remember hating it, but I also remember exactly none of it too, which doesn’t speak well for it. I almost think a movie that I watch and hate is better than a movie that I watch and have zero reaction to at all. At least a movie I hate was strong enough to elicit a reaction of some sort.

          • Simon Allen

Yeah actually i didn’t hate the movie ……i hated all the people that wet their pants over it 🙂

          • I think hype can kill a movie faster than it being bad. That’s why I try to avoid getting too much press information about a movie before I see it, but it’s almost impossible to avoid. It seems like everything that comes out now is “the single best __________ of the year/decade/millennium.”

      • Simon Allen

Yep …..i’m a big DC fan but on the last couple of movies the CGI had really been one of the biggest fails as it just ends up looking like a damn cartoon .
Apart from Suicide Squad which just stank all over .

    • Travis_Bickle

You’re starting to annoy me! 🙂
Also…member how bad Robert Downey Jr’s head looked in Civil war? CG always looks a little honkey tonk even by modern standards.

      • Saturn

That wasn’t CG, that was shot a couple of days after Downey had botox…..

        • Simon Allen

          Right ! 🙂

        • Travis_Bickle

His face is so pumped with toxins it floats awkwardly over an Ironman suit. LoL

      • Simon Allen

Just starting ….you are late to the party 🙂
If they can get a sequence like the final fight in the first avengers movie so right …..then they don’t have an excuse do they ?
And i hate to tell you this but that is just how his head looks now .

        • Travis_Bickle

The end of the first avengers flick was dope.
I’m talking about when he’s got his helmet open in Civil war. His melon floats all strange over the Ironman suit. It’s something I can’t unsee now.
I still plan to see Rampage though, fully lit because it comes out on my favorite holiday.

          • Simon Allen

Oh i didn’t say i wasn’t going ……and in 3D too at the risk of losing my retinas .

    • Barry El Beardo

CGI in Hollywood has peaked and is already on the decline again. Unless studio films can regularly pump out CGI as good as Jungle Book and War of the Planet of the Apes, they shouldn’t bother (if they are going for realism).
But I think it looks fun

      • Simon Allen

Yep i’m thinking the same thing and you just know i’n still gonna watch it ……i watch any old crap 🙂 x

        • Isn’t it amazing the stuff we’ll go to, knowing full well it’s not actually “good,” but totally willing to sit through it anyway?

          • Simon Allen

There is a huge place in my heart for utter garbage …….as long it entertains .

          • Travis_Bickle

That CJ dipshit is the opinion police and will start calling you mentally ill if you disagree with him. I suggest blocking him. IMO

          • Simon Allen

He hasn’t torn into me so far but thanks for the heads up .

          • Travis_Bickle
          • Oh look….it’s you again. Yet I’m the supposed stalker. Sigh.

          • Me too. LOL. Hell, sometimes the bar for “entertains” is even pretty low, as in “occasionally makes me look up from my iPad.” Maybe it’s because horror can be a really strong addiction, but because there’s so little high-quality stuff, we wind up mainlining the dreck because a bad fix is better than no fix.

          • Simon Allen

More than a few of my favourite movies are actually quite terrible . LOL
But dammit they are fun !!!

          • Damn right! LOL. Every diet needs some junk food–it can’t all be broccoli and alfalfa sprouts. I make no apologies for the trash cinema that I love, even if I will readily admit it’s trash.

  • I doubt this is going to be the kind of movie that makes me think, “Oh wow–now that’s how movie making should be done.” but it will probably be fun to watch shit blow up, which is all I tend to expect from this kind of movie anyway. Don’t tend to ave a bunch of those to choose from in April, so it will be like getting decent strawberries out of season. Or something like that.

    • Saturn

That should be the official tagline for the movie “RAMPAGE : Like getting decent strawberries out of season……”

      • LOL–thank you. Maybe I should go into marketing.

  • Blade

Damn I was really hoping Ralph and Lizzie would also be bipedal like in the games.

Any word on if this will somehow be connected to Godzilla/Kong? Aren’t they also WarnerBros.?

    • MYKEE WATTZ

      please god no

    • Saturn

      Don’t give ’em ideas!

      • Blade

Lol this is WB my dude, if it already isn’t I can guarantee they have at least thought about it. Look at all the guest characters they had put in Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 lol

MKX – Jason, Leatherface, Alien, Predator

Injustice 2 – Sub -Zero, Raiden, Hellboy, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

If they can mesh things together they are going to do it lol

  • Brandon

Looks like Jeffrey Dean Morgan is stuck in sassy Negan mode. Can someone help that guy out, please.

    • dukeblues

      This

    • Demonizer

      Occupational hazard.

    • J Jett

Brandon, YES!! i thought the exact same thing! LOL. i really hate (and not in a good way) JDM as Negan and it looks like i’ll hate him in this film as well (and again, not in a good way).

      • Brandon

I feel bad, because he’s from my town (Kirkland, WA), and Negan is obviously REALLY popular (maybe even more than the Comedian or Papa Winchester or anything else he’s done), but it’s REALLY one-note.

        • J Jett

i LOVED him as Papa Winchester! 🙂

          • Saturn

            ****Swoons….*****

            And yes, I’m straight.
            But still……

        • Evi

I think the fact that he’s been cast in some interesting roles has convinced people that he’s a good actor.

      • Master99

I actually like the Negan character, in fact he is the only thing keeping me watching the walking dead. He is the closest thing we have to a Freddy type villian left, and I enjoy a villian making snarky comments while doing a really violent act. I would like to see JDM continue to do a variety of roles, but still pull out the Negan character from time to time.

        • Simon Allen

But seriously , you are not telling me that someone wouldn’t have shot the bastard in the face by now ?

          • Master99

Of course not, the show tends to avoid realistic situations, which is one of the reasons I really don’t care about. I just like the snarky smart ass style of Negan. I am still wondering when all the gas supply will be stagnant and no longer work since it’s only been 8 years into the apocalypse and the zombies should have starved or decayed by now.

      • Simon Allen

I’m surprised they is any scenery left on The Walking Dead after JDM has finished chewing it all !!

  • MODOK

This trailer fails to address my questions. What I need to know is who’s going to catch the poor lady in the bathtub? And when will the monsters finally learn to steer clear of the neon signs?

    • Saturn

In regards to the lady in the bathtub, I’ve recently read the script and can reveal that legendary horror legend Johnathon Schaech has a cameo as Bathtub Rescue Man.
      I cannot wait!

      • Travis_Bickle

        legendary horror legend – redundant?

        • Saturn

Nah – he’s got tons of work lined up.

  • Travis_Bickle

I remember the video game, both arcade and home console. I was waiting for “Lizzie” to show up the whole time. Super excited to see they made a movie out of it. It doesn’t look like the highest quality flick of all time but still, nostalgia!

I’m not sure why all action movies are required to star Dwayne Johnson now though.
Regardless, this is one from my childhood so i’m all in! Comes out on 4/20 too…lol.

    • American Atheist

I liked when they shrunk back down to normal people and you could eat them.

      • Travis_Bickle

Good point, in the game they were mutated people.

  • Baron Von Marlon

I want something like this but R-Rated. Just bloody mayhem on a giant scale.

    • Necro

      Me too Baron, me too!

      • Baron Von Marlon

The guy from Piranha 3 directing, Dwayne Johnson still in the lead but teamed up with Terry Crews, Schwarzenegger in a smaller role as the mayor of the city and few low level “actresses” who don’t mind showing their goods.

    • CelticBull

      … and without Dwayne.

    • zombie84_41

me too that be amazing sadly i dont think it ever happen

  • Necro

It just looks like a fun outing for my family and I. I really like IMAX and this looks like a good one to see in that format. Now as far as expecting a good movie……..

    • Kyle Cole

I’m definitely going to see it!! I’ve never played the game, so i have nothing to compare it to. I used to get alot of shit from people because i love the resident evil films and didn’t play any of the games.

      • zombie84_41

lol the game had no plot the movie is the plot

      • Necro

Sucks for them! Also I wasn’t aware you had to play the games in order to be able to watch the films!

  • J Jett

i’m bummed to say it looks meh…
i love creature features and i will watch this movie but not in theaters. the part that pissed me off in the trailer is when the Rock is like “YOU’RE NOT KILLING MY FRIEND”….then it proceeds to show his “friend” destroying the city (and no doubt killing tons and tons of people). but hey, as long as the Rock gets to keep his friend alive and well that’s all that matters. LOL.
oh and Jeffrey Dean Morgan stuck in Negan mode is 100% a turnoff.

    • zombie84_41

its negan the rock and animals from jurmanj

  • RedNeoCon

Dwayne Johnson as a “primatologist”. Uh huh……

    • Brandon

He’s not a pound of protein powder, he’s a primatologist!

      • Travis_Bickle

Thank god somebody made a Congo joke!!

  • American Atheist

Meh..The only thing that looks cool is Jeffery Dean Morgan on the big screen again.

  • nicholasmwalker

    ok fine, i’ll watch it

  • The_Gentleman

No, I’m not on board with it you lemming. Enjoy wasting your money of that shitty looking piece of, well, shit. Stupid garbage. The Rock is officially overexposed.

    • Travis_Bickle

      You’re mom is overexposed.

      • dredgXIX

        Your* mom. You’re a dumbass.

          • Travis_Bickle

Haha, says the guy who has made 15 posts in 5 years. I’m sorry noob, you are going to have to try harder then that to ruffle my feathers. I have one profile and thats all. I don’t make fake ones like you to upvote your worthless posts. Stand proud you bright shining pillar of mediocrity.

          • AldermachXI

lol…the disqus elite! I feel graced by your presence. Takes a special kind of fucking loser to live on here. So congrats on that, I guess. Now, back to shitty Rob Zombie films for you, retard. (I’ll wait for your reply. I’m sure it’ll only take you a minute, since you have nothing better to do. Loser)

          • Travis_Bickle

          • AldermachXI

I’ve never seen anyone boast about post count on disqus…Sad clown is sad. Thankful I don’t know anything about you. Seems like a depressing existence…poor little shit sits and waits for replies to his comments. Congrats, loser. You’ve made it! You’re the king of BD comments lmao.

Trust me kid, my existence is rad and making you look silly is part of it. Here’s hoping for post 18!

          • Travis_Bickle

What edit do you keep talking about? You just didn’t read the original post tard. I’m sorry you can’t read and understand 4 words. Noob.

  • Pf Mahan

this is recycled crud we have seen in similar movies, lazy writing

  • gjk2012 .

It looks like we are headed down the road of what the people in the movie idiocracy are watching in the movies.

  • zombie84_41

looks good hope for more monster mayhem

    • Werewolf

Thanks for not being another stick in the mud.

      Me too.

      • zombie84_41

Welcome. I just wanta have fun. I like having fun at the theaters. So I want this to be fun. They got some smashing shit down pack. Now I wanta see them eat people and rip people apart. Hell if Skull Island can pull it off in a PG-13 movie I’m sure they can too.

        • Werewolf

I second every bit of that. I think this is going to be a blast.

And it’s always better when they rip people apart. 😀

          • zombie84_41

yeah it has to be the game did it lol. I miss that game.

  • Saturn

    Meh.
I’ll probably check it out though.
    We all will, right?

    • HeWaTcHeSnOeYeS

      no.
      It will bomb.

    • NixEclips

I dunno. I’ve got that garbage disposal that needs my hand in it.

  • Munchie Strikes Back

So, is that the only way Jeffrey Dean Morgan knows how to deliver his lines?

    • The chicken man

Well, he has a whole career worth of not talking like that, but yes. He does appear to be stuck in character. Maybe at the makers request?

    • Vohtrake

haha That question does not make sense, you’ve only seen do that in The Walking Dead. He has 26 years of being on screen.

  • HeWaTcHeSnOeYeS

“Wildly entertaining” = tired and generic.

  • Alanmac

    This looks absolutely terrible.

  • bluepurplechips

This looks so derivative and generic. Also, I’m tired of The Rock.

    • Travis_Bickle

      Crack is wack.

  • Dave Brown

Fun!!! I loved the game lol

  • TheMuppetManiac

So, clearly the Rock speak from his heart to the gorilla and he ends up beating the wolf and coc.

Either that or the Rock goes all Big Man Japan and tag teams with the gorilla.

  • Azwethinkweiz

    Hopefully some people get eaten.

  • Mr. Dry

“Big meets bigger” There goes my dream title for a gay porn film.
