Fede Alvarez Casts Claes Bang as Villain in ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’

Production is set to begin early next year on Evil Dead remake and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which will essentially be rebooting the tale of iconic character Lisbeth Salader with, once again, an all-new cast. And it looks like Alvarez has just found his villain.

Variety reports that Claes Bang (The Square) has landed a role as one of the antagonists in The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

Claire Foy stars as Lisbeth Salader, with Sylvia Hoeks as Salander’s evil twin.

In the film, an adaptation of David Lagercrantz’s novel…

“Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.”

Alvarez co-wrote with Steven Knight and Jay Basu.

David Fincher will executive produce the new film, headed our way October 19, 2018.

    He’s 2 for 2 in my book. Let’s make it 3!

Yes, Alvarez is wonderful — guys like him and Denis Villeneuve get me really excited about the future of genre film.

While I love this director, taking the 4th entry in the Millenium series, one not written by the original author no less, seems like a mistake. I am sad they never finished the series at Sony with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, but at least I have the Noomi Rapace version.
