‘Better Watch Out’ Landing on Shudder Just in Time for Christmas

Now streaming on VOD outlets, Chris Peckover’s holiday horror film Better Watch Out (read our review) is arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on December 5.

Additionally, it’ll hit Shudder (US & Canada) on Thursday, December 7!

If you’d rather pick up the Blu-ray + DVD combo pack, it includes a making-of featurette, as well as a collectible holiday trading card inside each and every package.

In the film…

Set in a quiet American suburb on a snowy evening on the lead up to Christmas, Ashley (Olivia DeJonge), the regular babysitter for Deandra (Virginia Madsen) and Robert Lerner (Patrick Warburton), has to defend their twelve-year-old son (Levi Miller) from strangers breaking into the house – only to discover that this is far from a normal home invasion.

The thriller is a Storm Vision Entertainment and Best Medicine production, directed by Chris Peckover (Undocumented) and written by Zack Kahn and Peckover.

I fucking loathed this movie. I guess Levi Miller is too good at his job…because I haven’t hated a character this much in god knows how long. Its not a compelling, makes the movie even more engrossing kind of hate either. I just flat out wanted to beat the shit out of the little bastard.

I hear you DoopGremlin. If Levi Miller’s intent was to have the audience despise Luke he certainly pulled that off. I also completely hated the movie, and couldn’t wait for it to be over. How the movie has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes is beyond me.

Doop, word for word i agree with you. the way his character was written (MIND-NUMBINGLY awful/vile) it made watching/enjoying the movie impossible for me.

  • Laura Kinney (X-23)

Wanted to like it, but couldn’t like it. The trailer fooled me, as I thought it was a more violent Home Alone type movie. Man, was I wrong.

The trailer fooled everyone who hated the movie Laura. I enjoy a good home invasion movie with a twist like You’re Next, but Better Watch Out was dog shit.

      • Laura Kinney (X-23)

        Agreed!!

  • Simon Allen

Saw it last night …..Yuk .
That lead kid in it has to be the most slappable youth in a movie since that brat in The Babadook .

    • J Jett

agreed 1000000000000000%! nothing against the actor playing the kid but I FUCKING HATED HIM SO MUCH (and not in a good/fun/intentional way!)!! lol. it didn’t help that even the lead “protagonist” girl wasn’t all that likable either.

      • Blood Boil

Doesn’t that mean he did a great job? I wanted to choke him the entire time, but that is worth and applause for a job well done

      • Simon Allen

He just made me dig my nails into the palm of my hands and grind my teeth …….the whole movie seemed to be populated with obnoxious dickheads .

    • Creepshow

      You leave Samuel alone!

      • Simon Allen

Gladly …..perhaps at the slippery edge of dangerously precarious clifftop .

        • Creepshow

You knock it off this instant! He’s a sweet (fatherless) lad who loves his mum.

  • Loved this movie, wasn’t expecting much but ended up getting one of the better slasher movies of this decade!

    • J Jett

is this movie really a slasher though?

      • Kind of, not in a traditional sense, but it certainly ends by building up what could be one of the most interesting movies slasher villains of all time in my opinion. Would LOVE to see this turn into a series!

      • david

My thoughts exactly J Jett. It’s a crappy home invasion movie, and definitely not a slasher.

  • Blood Boil

Pleasantly surprised by this movie; all of you are hating on the antagonist’s role, but if he made you hate him that much (as did I), doesn’t that mean he nailed it? I am glad he was that obnoxions, it’s nice to truly hate the villain because in most films I am generally cheering them on

i can only speak for myself but i assume Levi Miller is a good actor (i’ve only actually seen
him in BETTER WATCH OUT and the several episodes of SUPERGIRL he was in). i have nothing against him. my issue was that i just hated (to where i could barely watch the movie without taking a break and returning to it later) how Levi’s character was written. there’s “FUN TO HATE” antagonists in films and there’s “I HATE THIS CHARACTER BUT IN THE UNINTENDED WAY” type of gig.

    • I have to disagree, his cockiness and ego was just pure douchebag level, I couldn’t stand seeing him on my screen for a majority of the movie because he thought he was hot shit. I wouldn’t let him near my worst enemy

  • This was a very disappointing movie for me, the budget and promotion looks expensive and made me intrigued to finally see a holiday slasher with a great budget, but the movie’s twist completely derailed the fun in the movie, to me it just irritated me to see the villian succeed so easily and for the majority of the film, if it was more of a cat and mouse thriller or had another twist thrown in I could get behind this, but it just left me annoyed and underwhelmed. The ending did make me howl in delight but even that wasn’t enough to save this movie for me. However I do own Shudder and they have been KILLING it lately with their selections.

BTW did anyone catch that netflix movie “Bedeviled”? I stumbled across it and to my surprise a lot of the jump scares in fact scared the shit out of me! Really great horror if you can get past the bad acting.
