Production will begin early next year on Evil Dead remake and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which will essentially be rebooting the saga with an all-new cast. As Alvarez recently noted, he wouldn’t be presenting his own unique vision if he used David Fincher’s actors, so all roles are being recast.
Variety reports today that Norwegian actor Sverrir Gudnason (Borg/McEnroe) has been cast as Mikael Blomquist, previously played by Daniel Craig.
Claire Foy stars as Lisbeth Salader, with Sylvia Hoeks as Salander’s evil twin. Claes Bang (The Square) recently landed a role as one of the film’s antagonists.
Cameron Britton, who played real-life serial killer Edmund Kemper in Netflix’s “Mindhunter,” will play a close associate of Lisbeth — a computer expert to whom she reaches out when she needs assistance.
In the film, an adaptation of David Lagercrantz’s novel…
“Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.”
Alvarez co-wrote with Steven Knight and Jay Basu.
David Fincher will executive produce the new film, headed our way October 19, 2018.
