Meet the Zombie Couple On the Run In ‘Eat, Brains, Love’

Published

Gunpowder & Sky announced today that Jake Cannavale, pictured above, Angelique Rivera, and Sarah Yarkin have been cast in leading roles of the cinematic adaptation of Jeff Hart’s zombie road trip novel, Eat, Brains, Love, currently in production.

Eat, Brains, Love follows zombie virus-infected high school seniors Jake and Amanda as they run from Cass, a psychic sent by the government to track them down, and search for a cure for their affliction.

Cannavale (Nurse Jackie) appears as ’Jake’,  Rivera (American Crime) as ‘Amanda’, and Yarkin (American Horror Story) as ‘Cass’. They join the cast which features Jim Titus (Pretty Little Liars) as ‘Tom’, Patrick Fabian (The Last Exorcism) as ‘Alastaire’, Ty Headlee (Cause and Effect) as ‘Chazz,’ Kristin Daniel (Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter) as ‘Grace’, and Kym Jackson (American Crime Story) as ‘Summer.’

Directed by Rodman Flender (Scream: The TV Series), the film is based on Jeff Hart’s synonymous novel and adapted by writing team Mike Herro and David Strauss (One Tree Hill).

The first in a two-part book series, Eat, Brains, Love is touted as a “heartwarming and bloody blend of romance and deadpan humor” and filled with laughs, heart—and brains.

The good news: Jake’s dream girl, Amanda Blake finally knows his name.

The bad news: It is because they both contracted a mysterious zombie virus and devoured the brains of half their senior class.  Now Jake and Amanda are on the run from Cass, a teen psychic sent by the government’s top-secret Necrotic Control Division to track them down.  As Jake and Amanda deal with the existential guilt of eating their best friends and set off in search of a cure for the zombie virus, Cass struggles with a growing psychic dilemma of her own – one that will lead all three of them on an epic journey across the country and make them question what it means to truly be alive. Or undead.

Eat, Brains, Love is set to wrap up production later this month.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
