Brand New Holiday Horror Film ‘Red Christmas’ Just Hit Netflix

The only thing under the tree this year is terror.

Writer/director Craig Anderson’s Aussie horror film Red Christmas brought a little early holiday fear this year when it was released on VOD back in October, and we’re happy to report that it’s just hit Netflix in perfect time for you to watch before the big day!

Our own Chris Coffel reviewed the film last month, calling it “the perfect stocking stuffer for slasher fans.”

He added, “Red Christmas has a completely bonkers plot and I love every second of it.”

Genre icon Dee Wallace stars alongside Geoff Morrell, Sarah Bishop, and Janis McGavin.

“Wallace stars as the stressed-out mother of a squabbling family, gathered together in a remote Outback estate on Christmas Eve. When a mysterious, deformed young man appears at their door, things soon change from petty insults to bloody, imaginatively orchestrated violence as Wallace attempts to protect her family from the vengeful intruder. The film deliriously infuses comedy, dark family secrets with outlandish gore and adds the always controversial subject of abortion in its blood-stained mix.”

Hopefully better than better watch out where I guessed the “twist” just by reading the blu Ray case

    • Josh Blitzenbrox Myers

The twist wasn’t even the problem for me. It was the ridiculous logic, the obnoxious humor, the obnoxious character, and the unfufilling ending

It was advertised as a horror version of home alone, why didn’t they just make that instead? THAT is an idea full of potential. It was also advertised as a christmas movie, which it is not, remotely

      • Necro

        Absolutely agree Josh!

      • david

We have a winner. I was so excited for Better Watch Out, and was thinking the exact same thing. It would’ve been awesome if it would have been a rated R horror comedy version of Home Alone.

        • MrX13

So are you people saying the Better Watch Out is not worth the time to watch??? It looked like a fun horror version of Home Alone but it’s not??

          • Justin McGill

I didn’t hate on it that much.. But it was kind of a lame twist. If it had kept work the twisted Home Alone I might have been on board with it.

MrX13, i too was so excited for BETTER WATCH OUT but Josh & david have worded it perfectly in their posts above (especially where Josh says…” It was the ridiculous logic, the obnoxious humor, the obnoxious character, and the unfufilling ending”). i cannot properly express just how much i hated this movie. that being said, i think you should check it out because you may like it. we all like different things.
MrX13, i’ve noticed you and i seem to like a lot of the same movies/types of movies!

          • MrX13

I will definitely watch it when I can then. IMDB score of 6.6/10, Rotten Tomatoes has 87% but it does look interesting. I’ll see if I can watch it on Kodi or something this weekend

I enjoy conversations with people who enjoy the same movies as I do.

It might be worth your time, but it’s definitely not worth your money. I definitely suggest that you watch the movie for free on-line. I just didn’t find it to be funny, scary, or entertaining. I might consider watching it a second time to see if I missed something, but I really have to think it over because I don’t want to waste another 90 minutes of my life watching that crappy movie.

          • MrX13

Interesting! I guess I will have to wait until it comes on Netflix or Amazon Prime. I won’t waste money on it then. Thanx!

      • J Jett

Josh, EXACTLY! i agree w/ every word you wrote.

    • Necro

“Hopefully better”, trust me it is Chris! Now I won’t sit here and tell you it’s the best film or anything like that, but when specifically comparing these two films, oh yeah ‘Red Christmas’ by a galaxy! Then again opinions vary.

It shouldn’t be hard for it to be better than Better Watch Out since that movie sucked a bag of dicks.

It seems like everyone hated Better Watch Out solely because it wasn’t Home Alone with blood (which I completely agree could and should happen). However, I loved Better Watch Out but I came into it expecting nothing. I knew there was a “twist” and that’s about it.

      *SPOILERS*

I thought it was a really creative take on toxic masculinity and spoiled brats who feel entitled to everything. You spend the beginning of the movie with the idea of main boy as the protagonist, with little moments sprinkled throughout before the twist where he is doing and saying things that often get passed off as “boys being boys” or hand-waved, when they are really problematic (i.e. trying to get her drunk, continuing to accost her after she said hands off). Normally, as long as the couple makes cute in the end, most viewers end up overlooking prior shitty behavior from the main character (i.e. all the creepy stalker-type shit in most romantic comedies).

However, this movie’s twist took that premise extrapolated it. It forced the viewer to consider the “hero” or “nice guy” archetypes taken to their true toxic extremes, like whether or not anyone deserves a girl just because the hero “becomes a man” and saved her or because he thinks he should be the one to kiss her.

Why does everything I buy on blu ray end up on Netflix!?! ARGH!!

  • MrX13

What the… looks fun and entertaining! Will have to check it out on Netflix

  • Laura Kinney (X-23)

Hmmm, I might check it out…

  • Kyle Cole

Not bad at all. I enjoyed it even though it seemed the casting was off. Dee Wallace was great as always!

  • Hamilcar Racho

    I love this film

  • Funny how the comments in this thread have become dedicated to trashing BETTER WATCH OUT(a film which I haven’t seen) instead of RED CHRISTMAS,which was a surprisingly dark and entertaining Australian slasher outing that appeals to both side of the political specter(which I won’t drop any spoilers on),with a great Dee Wallace performance(as an unlikable lead character),plenty of splattery gore, and a grim finale that leaves no open doors for a sequel. And all because I like it doesn’t make me a scenester(a term that some of the on-line full-of-themselves elitist snobs wrongfully throw around).

    • J Jett

what is a “scenester”? i honestly have never even heard of that before.

  • Bombtherobot

This movie was trash and not in a bad enough it’s fun to watch way either. Cletus the fetus??? Get real. Bad acting, lame story. Such a waste of time.

    • david

I agree Bomb. I tried to watch it last night, but couldn’t even finish it. Even for a movie that’s on Netflix it was shockingly bad. Don’t bother watching this movie. It’s not worth your time.

    • david

Red Christmas should have been aborted.

      • Bombtherobot

        Truth bomb

  • DukeStKing

Elephant Man + Darkman + Jason + Funhouse + Basket Case = Red Christmas. Could’ve been really good in the right hands. Creepy enough, but too many plot holes. Worth 1 watch, I believe.
