John Malkovich Joins Cast of Zac Efron-Starring Ted Bundy Film ‘Extremely Wicked’

Yes, Zac Efron is playing serial killer Ted Bundy in director Joe Berlinger’s Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile, which should be interesting to say the least.

Deadline reports today that Oscar nominee John Malkovich is the latest to join the cast of the Bundy film, which also stars Lily Collins as Bundy’s former girlfriend.

Malkovich will play Judge Edward Cowart, who presided over the serial killer’s 1979 trial, sentencing him to death.

“The film is told from the point of view of Elizabeth Kloepfer during the multi-year period that Bundy hid his murder spree from his live-in lover, played by Collins.”

Bundy was executed in 1989. Shortly before his execution, he confessed to 30 homicides committed in seven states between 1974 and 1978.

The original screenplay, written by Michael Werwie, won the Nicholl Fellowship first prize and was featured on the Black List.

Zac Effron is a terrible actor but I can totally see him playing Ted Bundy. He’s handsome but something seems off about him. This could be his once in a lifetime role before he settles back into doing more awful Dirty Grandpa like movies.

    • James

I’m not a fan of him but I have to say it’s a very interesting casting choice and I’m really intrigued. I have a feeling he’s going to be perfect in the role.

He’s not an excellent actor, but terrible is an exaggeration, I remember some people giving him praises for his cameo in “The Disaster Artist”, yes it’s funny, but he don’t have even two minutes screentime, I guess people praised it because they didn’t recognize him at first and aren’t ready to hate and criticize him

Zac is the best thing of Neighbors (maybe not because of Rose Byrne, but he’s almost the best in the movie)

Yeah, I was actually surprised how good he was in those movies. I’m not talking Oscar here, but he was a fairly competent entertainer. I can see him improving with some dramatic roles like this.

    • James

He was more handsome back in his High School Musical Days, with his curvy hairline.

I want to know what Zac did or is doing to get into that headspace. I read all about these guys/girls if I’m not watching Horror films, and Bundy was totally looney tunes, but in a very controlled type of way, well at least at first. If this film is what it says it is in the first paragraph of this article, then we’re in for a pretty fucked up film! Hold on to your vomit bags! Now on to Berlinger; I’m definitely one of the few who liked his ‘Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows’ film, well with what little input/decisions he was allowed anyway, so this is interesting to see him go at a project like this. From everything I know about Bundy to everything about this film, I hope he gets to make it his way cuz assuming what he said was true said about his ‘Blair Witch’ film, was that the studio basically made it and he couldn’t do anything that he wanted so I hope he gets his chance with this. It must suck to have a vision about something only to have it dictated by someone else.

The only thing I don’t like about this is that it revolves around his lover and that time period of his life. At this point, Bundy only committed a few murders in an amateurish way during break ins. If anything, his arc as a criminal became much more interesting when he went on the road and he became an “organized serial killer”, modifying his VW Bug and using crutches in his schemes to lure in victims. And then, after his escape from custody when he totally lost it and went on his massacre at a Florida State sorority house. Unless they really play fast and loose with the timeline, this movie seems (in my opinion) to cover the less compelling parts of his murder spree.

      Very good points Turk!

Problem is they have already made that film with the VW and all that

  • Sounds good, he is a helluva actor.

Finally! A sexy Ted Bundy just what we wanted.

    Make rape sexy again!
