Eye-catching ‘The Cured’ Art Gets Infected
Ellen Page (Hard Candy, Flatliners) stars in the post-Zombie-era drama The Cured, which IFC Films acquired out of the Toronto International Film Festival. Now, they’ll release it in limited theaters and on VOD platforms February 23, 2018. Yesterday a trailer finally hit that was pumped full of energy and looked like a scary good time, now we have even creepier eye-catching art.
Our very own Joe Lipsett was at the premiere and wrote, “The Cured is social drama with horror undertones”:
“The Cured may not be the killer new zombie film that horror enthusiasts are thirsting for, but it clearly still has its brains.”
In Irish director David Freyne‘s directorial debut, “The film unfolds in the aftermath of a devastating virus which transformed the infected into zombie-like monsters. Mankind is struggling to rebuild societies deeply divided between the uninfected and those who did succumb to the virus and are still haunted by their violent actions. In the backdrop, the rise of a terrorist movement threatens to plunge the world into chaos again.”
Sam Keeley (Anthropoid, In the Heart of the Sea), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Avengers: Infinity War, The Infiltrator), and Paula Malcomson (The Hunger Games trilogy, “Ray Donovan”) also star.
Freyn directed from his own screenplay developed out of proof of concept prequel short The First Wave.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.
Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things), Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.
The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).
Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.
Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.
In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
