There are a lot of horror players behind the thriller Descendant for MGM’s Orion Pictures.
Pulling from The Omen and Bad Seed, the film is to be directed by Nicholas McCarthy, the up-and-coming filmmaker behind The Pact and At the Devil’s Door, from a screenplay by Jeff Buhler, says THR.
The feature tells the story of a young mother who, concerned about her 8-year-old son’s disturbing behavior, thinks something supernatural may be affecting him.
Buhler penned The Midnight Meat Train and Insanitarium, and is working on remakes of Pet Sematary and Jacob’s Ladder.
Taylor Schilling (pictured in “Orange is the New Black”) will topline the film being produced by Tripp Vinson (The Exorcism of Emily Rose), which is expected to begin in March in Toronto. Daniel Bekerman, Lisa Zambri, Nick Spicer and Jeff Buhler will serve as exec producers.
Last month, Orion made its first acquisition with Anna and the Apocalypse.
