Talk about some perfect casting as Jackson Robert Scott, who played Georgie Denbrough in New Line’s wildly successful Stephen King pic It, has joined Taylor Schilling (“Orange is the New Black”) atop Orion Pictures’ new horror movie Descendant.

Pulling from The Omen and Bad Seed, the film is to be directed by Nicholas McCarthy, the up-and-coming filmmaker behind The Pact and At the Devil’s Door, from a screenplay by Jeff Buhler, says THR with Deadline also reporting.

The feature tells the story of a young mother who, concerned about her 8-year-old son’s disturbing behavior, thinks something supernatural may be affecting him.

Buhler penned The Midnight Meat Train and Insanitarium, and is working on remakes of Pet Sematary and Jacob’s Ladder.

Production is being eyed to start this month in Toronto, with Tripp Vinson producing. Daniel Bekerman, Lisa Zambri, Nick Spicer and Buhler are executive producers. The movie centers on a mother (Schilling) who, concerned about the disturbing behavior of her son (Scott), thinks something supernatural may be affecting him.

Orion was recently relaunched by MGM as a new, stand-alone U.S. theatrical marketing and distribution company.
