Originally rumored to be titled Slappy’s Revenge, creator R.L. Stine tweeted out the official title for Sony Pictures’ forthcoming Goosebumps sequel: Slappy Halloween. It’s a fun play on “Happy Halloween” and also confirms the return of the franchise villain, Slappy.

Sony Pictures has been building the film’s cast, recently adding Wendi McLendon-Covey (“Reno 911”, “The Goldbergs”, Bridesmaids), Ken Jeong (“Community”, Hangover)and Chris Parnell (Anchorman, Hotrod) to the ensemble. They join the previously announced cast of Madison Iseman (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Ben O’Brien (Manchester by the Sea), Caleel Harris (“Castle Rock”), and Jeremy Ray Taylor (IT), who are set to star.

Plot details are currently unknown, but it’s been rumored to follow three who friends must stop Slappy the dummy from starting the Halloween apocalypse. As of this writing, the pic is still set to release on Oct. 12, 2018.

Ari Sandel is directing the project, which is one of multiple iterations based on the dozens of books in the series that the studio is developing. Neal H. Moritz of Original Film and Deborah Forte of Silvertongue Films are producing.

R.L. Stine’s book series has sold over 350 million copies worldwide and inspired the studio to make a movie following the books’ author, played by Jack Black, and what happens after his stories begin to become a reality in a small town. 2015’s Goosebumps went on to gross $150 million worldwide.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
