Famke Janssen Joins Cast of Nicolas Cage vs. Deadly Exotic Animals Film ‘Primal’
Yes, this movie is real. Yes, you should be excited about it.
Nick Powell sits in the director’s chair for Primal, an upcoming indie action film that stars Nicolas Cage as a big-game hunter for zoos who has booked passage on an Hispanic freighter with a fresh haul of exotic and deadly animals from the Amazon.
Oh and also on the freighter is a political assassin being extradited to the U.S in secret, who escapes and releases the captive animals, throwing the ship into chaos.
Deadline reports today that Famke Janssen has signed on to co-star alongside Cage’s big-game hunter, playing a neurologist lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.
Richard Leder wrote the script. Filming begins April 10 in Puerto Rico.
Primal is being produced by Luillo Ruiz of The Pimienta Film Company and executive produced by Walter Josten of Blue Rider Pictures.
Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky) is staying busy here in 2024, directing not only the werewolf movie Big Bad but also an upcoming thriller titled Drop.
The project for Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes is being described as a “fast-paced thriller,” and Deadline reports today that Violett Beane (Truth or Dare) has joined the cast.
Newcomer Jacob Robinson has also signed on to star in the mysterious thriller. Previously announced, Meghann Fahy (“White Lotus”) will be leading the cast.
Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”
Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.
Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
THR notes, “The film is a Platinum Dunes and Blumhouse production for Universal.”
