We’re not sure there’s any filmmaker who’s more exciting to watch right now than Neill Blomkamp, whose new Oats Studios venture has allowed him to step outside the studio system and crank his own creativity up to eleven. When a visionary artist like Blomkamp is fully unleashed and unrestrained, it’s really something special to behold.
Tomorrow, April 11, Blomkamp is launching a crow-funding campaign to make a feature length expansion of one of the coolest Oats shorts, Firebase, and he’s also taking part in a special live-streaming event on Twitch that begins at 11am PDT…
“Famed director Neill Blomkamp of District 9, Elysium, and Chappie fame, and his film studio, Oats Studios, will be livestreaming five of their independent films on Wednesday, April 11, at 11:00 am PDT. Each short film will be followed by a Q&A with Blomkamp, Art Director Rich Simpson, and VFX Supervisor, Chris Harvey.
The five short films–which include Rakka, God, Zygote, Kapture, and Firebase–will air on Twitch.TV/OatsStudios. Oats Studios is also encouraging viewers who are engaged by their films to help fund the expansion of Firebase into a full-length feature.”
“Since Oats Studios has created a lot of films, doing a live director’s commentary for the first time on Twitch is a great way to connect with our fans from all over the world,” said Blomkamp. “After we screen each film, we will be discussing them live with the audience and look forward to a spirited conversation with the Twitch community.”
