Paul Feig is Proud of ‘Ghostbusters’ and Would Love to Make Another

Published

I feel like Paul Feig‘s Ghostbusters was unfairly maligned. In fact, I actually liked it quite a bit. Still, there are many of the arguments against it, and outside of the nonsensical all-female pushback, there’s a lot going against it. It’s hard for me to sit here and support the idea of a Feig-directed follow up especially when he managed to piss off Dan Aykroyd and fuck the budget so badly that it’s put the franchise in turmoil. No matter. Feig is proud of his film and would love to bring back Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones for more ghost busting.

“We would love [to make another movie]; it’s really up to the studio,” Feig told Y! “We had so much fun making that movie.”

Even though the film had a rough run at the box office, and with critics and fans, Feig claims it’s built a cult following.

“The movie’s just really built an audience in the two years since it’s been out. I get contacted every day by people who are such fans of it, and so many women who are inspired by seeing women in science. I will go to my grave so proud of that movie, and so proud of what that cast did in that film.”

He adds: “I will go to my grave so proud of that movie, and so proud of what that cast did in that film.”

Thankfully, there’s at the very least an animated Ghostbusters in the works.

Filming is underway on The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man for Universal and Blumhouse, which will be howling its way into theaters on January 17, 2025.

Deadline reports that Matilda Firth (Disenchanted) is the latest actor to sign on, joining Christopher Abbott (Poor Things),  Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), and Sam Jaeger.

The project will mark Whannell’s second monster movie and fourth directing collaboration with Blumhouse Productions (The Invisible Man, Upgrade, Insidious: Chapter 3).

Wolf Man stars Christopher Abbott as a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.

Writers include Whannell & Corbett Tuck as well as Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo.

Jason Blum is producing the film. Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Whannell are executive producers. Wolf Man is a Blumhouse and Motel Movies production.

In the wake of the failed Dark Universe, Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man has been the only real success story for the Universal Monsters brand, which has been struggling with recent box office flops including the comedic Renfield and period horror movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Giving him the keys to the castle once more seems like a wise idea, to say the least.
