Rob Zombie Clears Up Dumb ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ Rumors
Last week, journos dug up an old interview from last October in which Rob Zombie had stated it would be “cool” to remake Creature from the Black Lagoon. The conversation started when HD Net allegedly asked what movie Zombie would remake, although it wasn’t asked on camera. He responded candidly about his love for Creature, explaining:
“One thing I always thought was possible was to remake Creature from the Black Lagoon,” Zombie explained. “Because the creature itself, in that phenomenal suit they constructed, could be exactly the same. So I think Creature from the Black Lagoon could be a cool one.”
At no point does he say he’s “interested” in remaking it or that he’s even pursuing it. If anything, he was answering the question as to which film he would remake if he had to. It was simply fun chatter.
Digressing, the story spread like wildfire and forced Zombie to make a statement, which he shared on Instagram:
“Fake news. Fyi before people start asking me about this. I have no idea what this article about. I am not interested in developing this project. I think I said it could be a cool remake. That’s it. Ugh, internet.”
Logically, the idea of Zombie remaking Creature is absolutely ridiculous anyway, especially since Guillermo del Toro basically already did so with last year’s Oscar-winning The Shape of Water. How would you top that?
If anything, it would have been cool to see Zombie direct The Blob, which he was once in talks to helm.
