Luca Guadagnino Relays Quentin Tarantino’s Reaction to the ‘Suspiria’ Remake; “In the End He Was Crying”
Hey, if that’s not a ringing endorsement…
Last week, star Chloe Grace Moretz compared the new Suspiria to a modern day Stanley Kubrick film, but actors are of course expected to rave about their own movies. So maybe that one didn’t mean much to you. But, for what it’s worth, we’re here today to let you know that Quentin Tarantino, who damn sure knows a good movie when he sees one, loved it too.
Speaking with Indiewire, director Luca Guadagnino relayed Tarantino’s glowing reaction.
“I showed it to Quentin Tarantino. We’ve been friends since our jury duty at the Venice Film Festival. I was nervous but eager to hear his advice,” Guadagnino told the site. “We saw it at his place and his reaction warmed me. He was enthusiastic about it; in the end he was crying and hugged me.”
The Italian filmmaker added, “Because it’s a horror movie but also a melodrama, my goal was to make you look at the horror without being able to take [your eyes off the screen] because you’re captivated by the characters. Amazon is very happy.”
Suspiria arrives in theaters on November 2.
In Suspiria, which stars Dakota Johnson as Susie Bannion, “As a darkness builds at the center of a world-renown dance company, its artistic director (Swinton), a young American new to the troupe (Johnson), and a grieving psychotherapist (Ebersdorf) become entangled in a bloody, sighing nightmare.”
The cast also includes Chloe Grace-Moretz, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Sylvie Testud, Angela Winkler, Małgosia Bela and Lutz Ebersdorf.
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke composed the score. David Kajganich wrote the film, co-financed by Amazon Studios and K Period Media.
