Ok Go’s Damian Kulash To Tackle The Impossible?

Alright, this was too cool to not write something about. Apparently, Damian Kulash of Ok Go fame will be joining author Neil Gaiman, Amanda Palmer, and Ben Folds at the Rethink Music Conference in Boston to, get this, write and record eight songs in eight hours. Not content there, they will then play a concert and then release it all as an album. All of this is meant to “…explore/re-conceptualize the entire notion of artistic creation and its mechanical dissemination and human reception in these topsy-turvy modern times of ours.” You can watch all of the action live, after the jump!

Original: Ten Awesome TV Show Theme Songs

Television shows are an amazing thing, if you find a good one that is. We find a series we enjoy and it becomes a part of our lives. We connect with the characters, we hope our fears don’t come true and we follow the story closely. Just look at the people who followed Lost to a near religious craze. Or what about todays ‘Gleeks’? There is something about a well made TV show that lures people in and becomes something we talk about with our friends for hours.

OMFG Of The Day: String Quartet Rocks Out Slayer

You know what I love about listening to heavy metal songs covered as a classical arrangement? Weird Al Parodies The Hell Out Of Lady Gaga

So, in a move that everyone saw coming, Weird Al has released a parody of a Lady Gaga song. Specifically, he mocked ‘Born This Way‘ by releasing ‘I Perform This Way‘. However, there’s more here than meets the eye. Apparently, Weird Al contacted Lady Gaga‘s camp to gain permission to release this track, even though by court rulings he has no need to do so. She replied with a “No.” So, Weird Al is going to make the song a free mp3 for anyone to download in the near future AND he’s asking people who enjoy the music to donate to the Human Rights Campaign, which is where he would’ve donated all the money he made from it anyways. You can read the full story here (it’s actually quite worth it).
Cheers to Kevin Riepl for directing me to the story.

Dredg Teaser For ‘The Tent’ Reminds Me Of Limbo

Dredg has always been a band that I wish I listened to more. I love each song I hear from them but I just haven’t managed to really delve into their material. In any case, below is a teaser trailer for a new song, ‘The Tent‘. The video reminds me of Limbo, which is easily one of my favorite XBOX Live Arcade games. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Original: Top 5 Rock N Roll Front Women (Past And Present)

It’s probably totally sexist to dedicate an entire article to the celebration of a handful of vocalists that are simply going to make this list because they are female. After all, the argument has been made to me endless times that it shouldn’t be about a person’s gender when you judge their music or skill. It should just be about being a damn good vocalist. But let’s be real here, people still find the presence of a woman, especially in a band, as some what of a novelty. The music world is male dominated, and even I will admit, I have a bias when it comes to the expectations I have for female fronted bands. And that’s exactly why these girls rock so much. All of them are talented as hell, and I’m proud to share a set of -ahem- parts with them. Sexism sucks – but these girls don’t. Here are my top 5 female rock vocalists, both historic and modern.
