This weekend we got in touch with Yam Laranas to chat a bit about the status of The Echo, the remake to his own independent film SIGAW. Being produced by Roy Lee and Vertigo Entertainment, the film has already been shot in Toronto, Canada and Laranas is now in post. Read on for the skinny on the project.

Now that shooting has wrapped in Toronto, Canada, writer-director Yam Laranas can focus on completing his film, THE ECHO. He tells us, "
We have started working on the VFX and I'm viewing them online here in Manila. Invisible Pictures Toronto (August Rush, Eastern Promises, Silent Hill) is our effects shop."
The story revolves around a young ex-con who moves into an old apartment building, only to learn his neighbor is an abusive police officer who savagely beats his wife and daughter. When the ex-con tries to intervene, he becomes trapped in a curse.
In addition to the VFX, Laranas is working late nights to get the music completed. "
Two nights ago, I stayed up till four in the morning to spot music with Tom Hajdu (of Tomandandy: The Hills Have Eyes, Arlington Road)," he continues, "
I'll be flying to Toronto to work on the final mix with sound designer Jane Tattersall (Away From Her, Silent Hill). I will be in Toronto for about five weeks... from color timing to final print."
Laranas is pretty excited and had a lot of enthusiasm when we chatted. He hopes to see the first print come April. "
These are very exciting times. The movie is shaping up very well together. I hope to see my first print by end of April. Only then I would know when the producers intend to release the film."
We'll keep you posted on any further developments.
