‘Toxic Avenger’ The Musical and a Remake?

I can’t say I’m all that surprised considering how downhill Lloyd Kaufman’s Troma has gone, but he’s now considering remaking his golden pony, The Toxic Avenger. In addition, there are also plans to turn the film into a musical. You can read all about it inside.

This is the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference. Troma classic with good make-up effects and stunts, a pleasant surprise indeed.

The boys over at Icons of Fright chatted with Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman who revealed plans for a TOXIC AVENGER musical, “Some excellent theatrical producers, the folks that brought you Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and I believe the Harriet Tubman story, the musical of course, they are going to be producing Toxic Avenger: The Musical.

He also reports some hilariously BULLSH-T news to the website, “We’re getting a lot of calls from people like Brett Ratner (yeah right) and others who want to remake Troma movies,” claiming that he refuses to sell out. I guess someone should tell him releasing crappy movies with the Troma brand on them just because he knows people will buy them is considered selling out.
