If a brand new wanted ad from Blizzard looking for a lead designer, lead programmer and senior producer for its Diablo 3 team based here in the states is anything to go by, there might just be some hope for a console version of Diablo 3. Blizzard has said in the past, adamantly one might add, that they are first and foremost a PC and Mac centric developer (with an emphasis on the former), and that’s the reason their recent titles like World of WarCraft and StarCraft 2 haven’t seen any console ports. With the Diablo franchise however, things might change.
As I said these positions are for Blizzard’s US-based Diablo 3 team and in their ad they said, regarding a console-based Diablo game, that “with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project.” This is all very exciting but should in no way be considered a confirmation of a long requested Blizzard title on home consoles. I haven’t had that scratch itched since StarCraft released on the N64 a decade ago so the thought of a Diablo game on my Xbox 360 (or PS3) is damn thrilling. Hit the jump for the full post, in all it’s rumor-rousing glory. Here’s the post that describes the “Diablo-related concept” in question:
We’re exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. If you’re passionate about all things Diablo and have the requisite skill and experience, then head over to our jobs site to check out the positions and apply.
Please note that this is not an announcement of a console title. We are first and foremost developing Diablo III for Windows and Mac PCs and don’t intend to allow any possibility of a console interpretation to delay or affect the release of the game.
