Los Angeles: John Carpenter Tribute Festival!

Published

on

If you’re in Los Angeles (or are able to drop everything and fly there) and a fan of John Carpenter, chances are your favorite film from the Master is going to be showing at the Santa Monica Aero this weekend. Starting on Friday, June 13th, Carpenter himself will be in attendance for Q&A in between a double feature of The Fog and The Thing. Then on Saturday, both Escape from New York and Escape From LA will be shown back to back, again with Carpenter in attendance for Q&A (bonus for Bloody readers – this one will be moderated by our own BC!). On Sunday, the director won’t be around, but that’s no excuse not to go – as they will be showing Halloween (his best film, IMO) and Christine. Finally, on Wednesday the 18th, actor Austin Stoker will be on hand for a screening of Assault on Precinct 13 (in which he stars) and Big Trouble In Little China (which he doesn’t). It’s a fantastic lineup with pretty much all of Carpenter’s best work, not to mention a pair of appearances by the man himself (an increasingly rare occasion). Tickets are still available for all 4 nights (one $10 ticket is good for both films) via Fandango. See you there!

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
