A Double Bagger Horror In Your House

Published

on

Ok, so it’s not actually a bad week for DVD releases, but it is a small one (shocking for a few days before Christmas). Arriving in stores on Tuesday, December 23 is Sony Home Entertainment’s must-see comedy horror flick, BAGHEAD, which is nearly a spoof of FRIDAY THE 13TH. Also arriving is the DTV animated feature RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION, among others. Read on for the full list.

BAGHEAD: Sony Pictures (TEX’S PICK OF THE WEEK)

While the Duplass Brothers were shooting their last feature film The Puffy Chair, a crew member raised the question “what’s the scariest thing you can think of?” Someone immediately said “a guy with a bag on his head staring into your window.” Some agreed, but some thought it was downright ridiculous and, if anything, funny (but definitely not scary). Thus, Baghead was born, an attempt to take the absurdly low-concept idea of a “guy with a bag on his head” and make a funny, truthful, endearing film that, maybe, just maybe, was a little bit scary, too.

TEX SAYS: Check out this “not really scary” scary movie!

99 PIECES: Vanguard

Joshua Licet leads a normal life, with a normal job, and a normal wife. But when he wakes up one morning with his wife missing and a puzzle to solve we find out his life is not so normal. Joshua Licet must reconnect with the truth and acknowledge a puzzle of lies and deception about himself, his wife and his family in order to stay alive for 40 days and 40 nights while he is forced to live through starvation and horror. Most importantly he must solve the puzzle in forty days or his wife will be dead.

PULSE 3: Dimension Extreme/Genius

Nearly a decade after the terrifying events of Pulse 2 the dead still walk the earth — having entered our realm through electronic devices. Justine, raised with her fellow human refugees in the remote no-tech survivor camp, is now a 17-year old girl who dreams of the world they’ve left behind. When an abandoned laptop links her to a mysterious outside caller, Justine risks everything to see if life has resumed back in the forbidden city.

TEX SAYS: After PULSE 2, I can’t imagine how this one is going to turn out. Or, perhaps I mean…I can’t imagine caring how this one is going to turn out!

RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION: Sony Pictures

A zombie attack brings chaos to Harvardville Airport. Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield who fought the sinister Umbrella Corporation during the Raccoon City tragedy 7 years ago, are back. In high-octane Resident Evil style, they’re ready to battle a rogue warrior who is seeking revenge after his family was killed in Raccoon City. The deadly G-Virus is unleashed and a new mutated monster goes on the rampage. Will Claire and Leon be able to terminate the virus before history repeats itself?

TEX SAYS: Resident Evil goes back to its video game roots with this all CGI continuation. I gotta admit, I really want to check this one out!
