As we first reported here back in March, it looks as if Daveigh Chase, who played Samara in The Ring, is definitely not returning in The Ring 2, according to IGN. Naomi Watts and David Dorfman will reprise their roles as Rachel and Aidan Keller. Inside is news on Chase not returning along with a link to a positive script review that confirms a few of our script pages we first reviewed here.
IGN writes, “The script is by Ehren Kruger, the same writer who penned 2002’s The Ring. The first film was an Americanized remake of the Japanese hit Ringu, which itself was based on a novel by Suzuki Koji. Ringu director Hideo Nakata will helm The Ring 2, replacing Noam Murro who exited over “creative differences.”
Naomi Watts and David Dorfman will reprise their roles as Rachel and Aidan Keller, respectively. Not returning, as had originally been expected, is Daveigh Chase who played the ghoulish Samara Morgan in the first film. Production is slated to begin in May. Location scouting is reportedly underway in Astoria, Oregon. DreamWorks had pegged the film for a November 10th, 2004 release but it’s not known if it can still make that date.
Producer Walter Parkes has already revealed that The Ring 2 will not follow the Japanese sequels to Ringu, deeming them “very narratively unsatisfying.” Consider yourself warned about MINOR SPOILERS if you proceed further.”.. and further you shall go by clicking here.
