‘Red Velvet’ Gets Amazon Exclusive DVD Release

Published

on

Horror fans everywhere, hold on to your hats…! Red Velvet, an edgy and fast-paced new feature film with terrifying and fun twists and turns, makes its way to DVD for the first time. Starring Henry Thomas and Kelli Garner, Red Velvet, from 3Mac Studios, will be available exclusively on Amazon.com on DVD and digital download beginning August 28, 2009 for an SRP of $14.99.
Light years from his memorable performance as Elliot in E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and other more recent films, including Gangs of New York, Legends of the Fall, and Suicide Kings, Mr. Thomas stars as Aaron, a charismatic and intriguing, yet darkly peculiar outcast evocative of the classic Norman Bates and Hannibal Lector. Mr. Thomas is paired with another young talent, Ms. Garner (as Linda) who has played opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Aviator and currently stars in Disney’s G-Force. After meeting his neighbor Linda at the local laundromat, Aaron soon learns she is disappointed about missing a birthday bash that is to take place with her friends at a remote cabin in the woods. To entertain Linda, Aaron, constructs a terrifying tale featuring a psychopathic killer that systematically and gruesomely murders all the guests at the party. Linda becomes more engaged as the mayhem mounts in Aaron’s story, even contributing some of her own ideas along the way. As Aaron’s yarn unfolds, the sexual tension between the mysterious stranger and his beautiful blonde neighbor continues to build with each scene as viewers are rapidly moved to its horrific climax.

Red Velvet is a refreshing alternative to today’s onslaught of “torture porn” horror movies. The new film harkens back to famed 80s slasher films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, while paying homage to Mario Bava and Dario Argento’s horror flicks of the 60s and 70s. The movie was shot on 35mm film, rendering the colors and composition even more vivid and arresting in a digital age. Avid horror fans also will spot the last cameo appearance by the late Forrest J Ackerman, legendary editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine, who inspired many top names in the film business and horror genres such as Tim Burton, John Landis, and Steven Spielberg, as well as Red Velvet co-producer, co-writer, and co-production designer, Joe Moe and producer, Sean Fernald.

The DVD also contains four special extras, including a behind-the-scenes feature that reveals the film’s special effects and actors, an audio commentary with the filmmakers, a 12-minute slideshow cut to Red Velvet’s score by Marc Doten, and Johnny Mac and the Cadillacs’ “Maniac” music video.

Horror movie fanatic who co-founded Bloody Disgusting in 2001. Producer on Southbound, V/H/S/2/3/94, SiREN, Under the Bed, and A Horrible Way to Die. Chicago-based. Horror, pizza and basketball connoisseur. Taco Bell daily. Franchise favs: Hellraiser, Child's Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Scream and Friday the 13th. Horror 365 days a year.
