‘Akira’ Lives, Manhattan in Serious Trouble!

The boys over at Collider have learned that Warner Bros. Pictures is still working hard at getting Akira, the live action version of the popular Manga series and animated movie, into theaters. The website breaks some incredible news reporting that Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, the duo behind Children of Men and Iron Man, are about to turn in their version of the film that takes place in Manhattan where a teen biker gang member is subjected to a government experiment which unleashes his latent powers. The gang’s leader must find a way to stop the ensuing swathe of destruction. They add that “if the script meets with approval from key people, the movie could go into production in 2010 with a release date in 2011.” No word on a new directed yet. Can I get a f*ck yeah?!
