I recently chatted with Rob Zombie on the set of Devil’s Rejects, the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses, where he explained to me a little bit about what happened with the DVD release of the first film, and why the next one will be better…
I felt bad asking, but I needed to know, why was the House of 1000 Corpses DVD so disappointing, even with Rob Zombie behind it?
Sure the movie rocked, but the DVD only had a few extras, which were extremely short. Rob explained to me that during the process of moving the film from studio to studio, a lot of the extra footage was lost, leaving only that short silent clip of the coffin being dropped undergound. Another reason for the lack of extras was the time the film was made. When House began shooting, DVD extras were still not a huge selling point, so there was no planning involved at that point. But a lesson being learned- Rob pointed out a few fellows who are on the set specifically to make sure this next DVD has tons of cool stuff to make your Rejects experience that much better.
